Abstract
Description
The invention relates to electrolytic deposition on anode of inorganic coatings on aluminum alloys to protect products operating in friction with the simultaneous exposure to high-temperature aggressive gas environments.
There is a method of electrolytic deposition of silicate coatings on aluminum and its alloys in an arc discharge mode in an electrolyte containing silicate, alkali metal hydroxide and insoluble metal oxide particles, at a current density of 0.02.0.10 A / cm 2 and a constant voltage of 150.220 V. This method produces painted silicate coatings with a thickness of 20.30 microns. However, such coatings cannot be used as functional wear-resistant and heat-protective coatings.
Closest to the claimed invention is the selected as a prototype method of electrolytic deposition of silicate coatings from alkaline electrolyte in the mode of half-wave voltage with an amplitude of 100.1000 V with superimposed through 5.500 positive half periods of one negative with an amplitude of 50.500 V [1] This method is as follows. The anode part is immersed in a metal bath (cathode) and a positive potential of up to 200 V is applied to form a primary oxide film. Further, the process is continued with the supply of negative voltage in series in the modes of spark, microarc and arc oxidation. In this case, unmelted porous thick-layer coatings are obtained on a number of metals, in particular aluminum.
However, this method does not allow to obtain coatings uniform in thickness on alloys with a heterogeneous structure, the phases of which differ significantly in their anode behavior in silicates, for example, on hypereutectic alloys of the AI-Si system and its modifications. In addition, the high porosity of the resulting coatings does not allow their use as wear-resistant.
The present invention is to improve the quality of coatings on aluminum alloys with a heterogeneous structure. To solve this problem, the process of electrolytic deposition of silicate coatings in an alkaline electrolyte is carried out with alternating packs of 2.50 positive half-periods of voltage (n a ) with an amplitude of 100.1000 V and 2.150 negative half-periods (n k ) with an amplitude of 50.500 V, observing the ratio of the number of cathode and anode half-periods ( n k / n a ) = 3.1.5 in the pre-spark stage and uniformly reducing it to (n k / n a ) = 1.5.0.5 in the arc stage.
In FIG. 1 shows a form of operating voltage applied to an electrochemical cell. The choice of this mode is due to the following considerations. The quality indicators of silicate coatings obtained by plasma electrolytic oxidation, such as uniformity in thickness, roughness, porosity, microhardness, largely depend on the quality of the primary oxide film of its uniformity and the thickness of the barrier part. The growth of primary oxide with a constant positive sign on highly alloyed aluminum alloys occurs unevenly due to a significant difference in the anode behavior of the structural components of such alloys. The phases enriched in aluminum are passivated more easily and the oxide buildup on them is faster than in phases enriched, for example, with silicon, where oxide growth can be difficult due to the larger potential barrier at the oxide-electrolyte interface. In addition, when concentrated aqueous solutions of silicates are used as electrolytes, a layer of silicic acid polymer chains is chemisorbed on the oxidation surface and a diffusion layer is formed near the anode, which slows down the growth of the primary oxide and increases its unevenness. Therefore, to form a dense and uniform primary oxide film on aluminum alloys with a heterogeneous structure, it is necessary to alternate the processes of oxide buildup and dissolution of the protrusions on its surface. To this end, at the pre-spark stage, oxidation is carried out alternating packs of 2.50 half-periods of positive voltage and 2.150 half-periods of negative voltage. The minimum number of half-
After reaching the breakdown voltage of the oxide and the transition of oxidation to the plasma-electrolytic stage, the coating builds up mainly due to plasma-chemical reactions in the channels of breakdowns of the primary oxide. Breakdowns of the coating occur both with positive and negative polarization of the electrode, and in the latter case they are more powerful. To obtain solid, uniform in thickness, defect-free silicate coatings, it is necessary, while maintaining a high temperature in the breakdown channel, to create a uniform integrated temperature field in the coating due to the uniform distribution and movement of elementary breakdowns over the oxidation surface. In this case, along with the formation of high-temperature modifications of silicon and aluminum oxides, characterized by increased hardness, the number of defects such as cracks, which usually occur both due to the difference in the thermal expansion coefficients of the coating and substrate materials, and due to the temperature difference in different parts of the coating and significantly reduce its operational characteristics.
A picture of the uniform distribution and intensive movement of elementary breakdowns along the oxidation surface is achieved with an equal ratio of the durations of the anode and cathode cycles, which in our case is determined by the ratio of the number of positive and negative half-periods. Therefore, at the plasma-electrolytic stages of oxidation, the ratio n to / n a is reduced from 3.1.5 to values close to unity. By changing the ratio of n to / n and in the range from 1.5 to 0.5 at these stages, the power released in the breakdown channels is controlled and the required composition, structure and stress state of the coating, which determine its operational characteristics, are obtained.
The method is as follows. The anode part is immersed in a thermostated metal cathode bath and voltage is applied. The number of positive half-periods is set within n a = 2.50, and the number of negative half-periods is selected from the ratio (n to / n a ) = 3.1.5. As the coating grows, the voltage gradually increases until the breakdown voltage is reached. Next, the process is conducted by raising the voltage and uniformly reducing the ratio n to / n a to (n to / n a ) = 1.5.0.5 sequentially in the modes of spark, micro-arc and arc discharges (plasma electrolytic oxidation stages) until the required coating thickness is achieved . Examples illustrating the invention are shown in the table.
1 The resulting coatings are uniform in thickness, characterized by low surface roughness, high hardness, regulated by porosity and good adhesion, which allows them to be used as heat-resistant coatings. The resulting coatings were applied to harden and protect the surfaces of parts of the cylinder-piston group of internal combustion engines and showed a 1.5.2-fold increase in their resource. Thus, the present invention provides a uniform thickness of hard silicate coatings with good heat resistance on aluminum alloys with a heterogeneous structure. TTT1
