Abstract
Description
The invention relates to metallurgy, namely, to the production of steel billets of large and extra-large cross-section on continuous casting machines (CCM).
A known method for the continuous casting of metal billets, including the supply of liquid metal to the mold, the formation and drawing out of the mold partially hardened billets and its final solidification in the secondary cooling zone of the continuous casting machine (see Kn. Theory of continuous casting. Technological fundamentals. Rutes VS Askoldov V.I. Evteev D.P. et al. M: Metallurgy. 1971, 296 p.). The disadvantages of this method when used for the production of billets of large cross-section are the low quality of the billet due to segregation of impurities in the central part of the ingot, as well as the low productivity of the continuous casting process. The noted drawbacks are the result of low melt crystallization rates in the central casting zones. The intensification of the solidification processes in the described method is possible only with the tightening of the external cooling of the ingot, the effectiveness of which, in the sense of accelerating the crystallization of the metal, is insignificant.
There is also a method of continuous casting of metal billets, in which the intensification of solidification processes (and with it the strangulation of the quality of the billet by segregation and increasing the casting capacity) is achieved by introducing "refrigerators" into the liquid phase of the ingot of solid particles of the cast metal (see ed. St. N 416149 , CL B 22 D 11/00). Particles are introduced through the crystallizer in order to partially or completely melt them in the liquid phase and thus remove, overheating of the melt. The disadvantages of using "refrigerators" in the manufacture of billets: a large cross-section are increased segregation of impurities in the axial zones of the ingot and low casting performance. Both disadvantages are due to the weak effect of "refrigerators" on the crystallization of metal in these zones (see. The quality of continuously cast steel billets / Dyudkin D.K. Tekhnika, 1988, p. 75). In addition, the uneven and unpredictable distribution of the introduced particles in the volume of the liquid well of the casting creates the risk of accumulations of incompletely molten particles and the resulting uneven properties of the metal over the cross section of the workpiece.
There is also a known method for continuous casting of billets, adopted as a prototype, in which accelerated solidification of the billet is achieved by forming a primary ingot in the first mold and layer-by-layer growth of this ingot in one or more successively mounted molds, the cross-sectional area of which increases discretely with increasing mold serial number (see Prince Continuous Casting / E. Hermann M, 1961, p. 324). At the same time, specific recommendations for choosing the geometric parameters of the primary ingot and the layers growing on it are not specified. The disadvantages of this method when casting billets of large cross-section are the low quality of the billet by chemical heterogeneity and low casting productivity arising from the irrational choice of the thickness of the primary ingot and subsequent layers.
The aim of the invention is to improve the quality of the workpiece and increase the productivity of the continuous casting process in the layered formation of the casting.
k3 коэффициент затвердевания металла, мм/мин 0,5;
To achieve this goal, in a method for continuously casting billets of large cross-section, including the formation of a primary ingot in the first mold and layer-by-layer growth of this ingot in one or more successively installed molds, the cross-sectional area of which discretely increases with increasing serial number of the mold, according to the invention, the thickness the primary ingot and the thickness of the layers successively stacked on it are selected from the condition
where H is the thickness of the primary ingot,
h the thickness of the stacked layers, mm,
k 3 the coefficient of solidification of the metal, mm / min 0.5 ;
wherein the build-up of each subsequent layer is carried out after the solidification of the primary ingot and all previous layers is complete.
It is known that the advancement of the crystallization front during the solidification of castings in continuous casting machines is satisfactorily described by the expression (2) (see Kn. The quality of continuously cast steel billets / Dyudkin D.K. Tekhnika, 1988, p. 42):
where δ is the thickness of the crystallized crust,
k 3 coefficient of solidification,
t is the time from the start of solidification.
Moreover, the growth rate of the crust at an arbitrary point in time is determined by the expression (3) obtained by differentiating (2) with respect to time:
where V k is the crystallization rate of the metal at the solidification front. From the expression (3) it follows that the solidification of a continuously cast ingot is accompanied by a continuous decrease in the crystallization rate. Therefore, the volumes of metal that solidify last (i.e., adjacent to the geometric axis of the workpiece) crystallize at the lowest rate. This speed will be obtained from (3) by substituting the corresponding crust thickness:
Where crystallization rate of the axial zone of the ingot
H is the thickness of the ingot.
Expression (4) indicates an inverse proportional relationship of speed and the thickness of N. Therefore, an increase in the thickness of the ingot H always entails a decrease in the rate of crystallization.
As a result of studies conducted by the authors, the dependence of the intensity of segregation processes in steel ingots on the rate of their crystallization was revealed. The crystallization rate was varied over a wide range by varying the external cooling conditions of the ingot. At the end of hardening, the metal was subjected to X-ray microanalysis for chemical inhomogeneity. It has been established that, at a melt crystallization rate less than the impurity diffusion rate, a segregation process is observed with the liquid phase enriched with this impurity and the final solidification of the workpiece with a chemical cross section heterogeneity. Conversely, the presence of a prevailing crystallization rate suppresses separation processes and provides a quick fixation of the chemically uniform casting structure. Empirically determined minimum crystallization rates, eliminating the segregation of impurities. For the most common steel impurities, the values of the indicated velocities are respectively
for oxygen (O 2 ) 1.2 mm / min,
for sulfur (S) 1.8 mm / min,
for phosphorus (P) 1.0 mm / min,
for nitrogen (N) 1.8 mm / min.
From this it follows that in order to obtain the structure of a continuously cast billet that is homogeneous to the chemical composition, the crystallization rate of the axial zones of the ingot must be less than critical, i.e. satisfy the condition:
In view of (4), condition (5) is realized at an ingot thickness
Taking into account that the ingot is formed as a result of the closure of counter-moving crystallization fronts with the thickness of the solid phase at the junction point h Н / 2, condition (6) of defect-free crystallization of the ingot can be represented as
Known methods of casting do not take into account these ratios, which leads to unsatisfactory product quality and low casting performance.
In contrast to the known, in the claimed method of continuous casting, the thickness of the primary ingot and the thickness of the layers successively stacked on it are selected in accordance with condition (1). This feature guarantees the production of a chemically homogeneous structure of the primary ingot and all subsequent layers (since it corresponds to conditions (6) and (7)) and, according to (4), increases the average crystallization rate over their cross section, which increases the casting productivity. If the sign is not observed (i.e. the condition (5) of defect-free crystallization of the metal in the primary ingot or layer is violated, which leads to the development of segregation processes and reduces the casting performance.
The sign of the build-up of each subsequent layer after the solidification of the primary ingot and all previous layers is complete ensures effective cooling of the solidified ingot at all stages of its formation, which helps to maintain a high solidification rate and, together with it, to obtain high-quality workpieces with high productivity. If this symptom is not observed, i.e., when the ingot that has not fully solidified the ingots is introduced into the next mold, the heat removal conditions from this ingot are violated, which leads to a sharp decrease in its crystallization rate and poses a threat to the quality of the workpiece.
As a result of patent information research, no technical solutions with similar distinctive features were found, which allows us to consider the proposed solution as meeting the criterion of "significant differences".
The invention is illustrated by the drawing, in which Fig. 1 shows a diagram of the claimed process for continuous casting of large workpieces, and Fig. 2 shows a comparative analysis of the productivity of the casting process at various thicknesses of the stacked layers.
(1).The primary ingot 1 (FIG. 1) of thickness H is formed in the
To prove the effectiveness of the proposal, we compare the quality of the workpiece and the productivity of the process when fulfilling and not fulfilling the condition (1). For definiteness and simplification of further considerations, we take the thickness of the stacked layers to be the same and equal to half the thickness of the primary ingot, and the moment of the start of building up of each subsequent layer is compatible with the moment of the end of the hardening of the previous one (Fig. 2).
для первичного слитка ;
Consider the process of continuous casting at (figure 2, a). The solidification kinetics of the workpiece with the given geometric parameters is graphically represented by the curve L. According to (3) and (4), the minimum solidification rate is
for primary ingot ;
for subsequent layers . Expressions (8) do not satisfy condition (5) for the formation of a chemically homogeneous structure and therefore determine the receipt of low-quality workpieces.
для первичного слитка ;
для последующих слоев .For an approximate estimation of the productivity of the casting process, the concept of the average crystallization rate is introduced, which is taken as the ratio of the layer thickness (or half-thickness of the primary ingot) to its solidification time. From the accepted assumptions
follows (figure 2, a)
where from
which means replacing the curve L by the approximating line L 'with an angular coefficient tgα 1 . Hence the thickness the solidified phase of the ingot at an arbitrary point in time τ x is determined by the expression
Let us now consider the process of continuous casting at (Fig. 2, b). The solidification kinetics of the workpiece with the given geometric parameters is graphically represented by the curve M. The rate of solidification in the region of the ends of the liquid wells:
for primary ingot ;
for subsequent layers .
Expressions (10) satisfy condition (5) for the formation of a chemically homogeneous structure and determine the receipt of high-quality workpieces.
For an approximate estimate of the productivity of the casting process, we approximate the curve M of the straight line M 'with an angular coefficient tgα 2 ,
Where
Hence the thickness the solidified phase of the ingot at time τ x will be equal to:
Let us compare the productivity of the two considered processes by comparing the dynamics of the growth of the solid phase (9) and (11). Because
and given the initial conditions , we obtain for any moment in time:
i.e., the casting method, taking into account condition (1), has a higher productivity.
An example of the practical use of the claimed method with the process of casting a rectangular steel billet with a cross section of 810 x 1460 mm in five series-mounted molds can serve. A primary ingot formed in the first mold with a cross-sectional dimension of 180 x 830 mm is discretely grown in subsequent molds in layers of thickness 90, 80, 80 and 65 mm. The ingot cooling system in the molds and the secondary cooling zone provides solidification of the metal with a crystallization coefficient of 27 mm / min 0.5 . Complete crystallization of the preform takes 45.6 minutes.
The given technological parameters provide crystallization of the workpiece at any stage of its formation at a speed not lower than
which significantly exceeds the critical speed (1.8 mm / min) and serves as a guarantor of high quality workpiece.
An example of using the claimed method when is a two-stage process of continuous casting of the same workpiece with a primary ingot thickness of 405 mm and a thickness of the build-up layer of 202.5 mm. In this case, the minimum crystallization rate
corresponds to critical for S, P and N and more critical for O 2 , which guarantees the absence of segregation of these elements and provides high quality casting for the defect "chemical heterogeneity". In this case, the complete solidification of the ingot is carried out in 112.5 minutes.
Compared with the basic version, which is adopted as a prototype, the proposed method completely eliminates the defect "chemical heterogeneity" and increases the productivity of casting.
Thus, the combination of the claimed distinctive features ensures the achievement of the purpose of the invention.
