Abstract
Description
The invention relates to non-destructive testing methods and can be used for ultrasonic thickness measurement of products made of materials with high attenuation of ultrasounds.
A known method of ultrasonic pulsed thickness measurement, which consists in the fact that short ultrasonic pulses are introduced into the product and its thickness is determined by the time difference between the leading edges of the emitted signal and the echo signal from the opposite wall of the product [1]
The disadvantage of this method is the low accuracy of measuring the thickness of products made of materials with high attenuation of ultrasound due to the increase in the duration of the fronts and the decrease in the amplitude of the received echo signal.
Closest to the claimed invention is a thickness gauge method [2] consisting in the fact that a probe signal is introduced into the product, an echo signal reflected from the opposite wall is received, a time point corresponding to the maximum of this echo signal is determined, and the known ultrasound propagation velocity and the difference in time between the beginning of the probing signal and the maximum of the echo signal determine the thickness of the product. The specified method is implemented using a device consisting of emitting and receiving ultrasonic transducers, a generator of exciting short-pulse signals, an input amplifier, a threshold limiter, a differentiator, a zero-organ and a time interval meter, the second input of which is connected to the second output of the generator.
The disadvantage of this method is the low accuracy of measuring the thickness of products made of materials with high attenuation of ultrasound, due to time displacement and a decrease in the magnitude of the maximum echo signal.
Thus, from the analysis of the prior art of ultrasonic thickness measurement, it is evident that in the known methods and devices the problem of accurately determining the thickness of products having a large attenuation has not been solved.
The purpose of the invention is to increase the accuracy of determining the thickness of products with high attenuation of ultrasound.
In the proposed method of ultrasonic thickness gauging, a phase-manipulated probe signal is introduced into the product, an echo signal reflected from the opposite wall is received, its autocorrelation function is obtained by optimal filtering of the echo signal, and a time instant corresponding to the maximum of the autocorrelation function is determined. The thickness of the product is determined by the known speed of propagation of ultrasound and the time difference between the moment of the end of the phase-manipulated probe signal and the moment corresponding to the maximum of the autocorrelation function of the echo signal.
The method is implemented using a device containing a series-connected
The method of ultrasonic thickness measurement of products with a large attenuation of ultrasound is as follows.
A phase-manipulated probe signal is emitted into the product using the emitting ultrasonic transducer (Fig. 2, a), on the same side of the product, a reflected echo signal (Fig. 2, b) corresponding to the reflection of the probe signal from the opposite wall of the product is received using the receiving ultrasonic transducer, amplify it and optimally filter it, obtaining the autocorrelation function of the echo signal at the output of the optimal filter (Fig. 2c). The shape of the autocorrelation function, the amplitude of its main lobe, as well as the ratio of the amplitudes of the main and side lobes substantially depend on the degree of attenuation of the probe signal when it passes in the product from the transmitter emitting to the receiver. The position of the maximum of the auto-correlation function corresponding to the maximum of the main lobe does not depend on the degree of attenuation of the probe signal, but only on the transit time of this signal, i.e. ultimately on the thickness of the product. In order to best fix the point in time corresponding to the maximum of the autocorrelation function, it is subjected to a lower threshold limit (Fig. 2d) and differentiated (Fig. 2d). The moment of time corresponding to the zero transition of the differentiated autocorrelation function corresponds exactly to the moment of time corresponding to the maximum of the autocorrelation function. The thickness h C · t / 2 is determined by the difference in time t between this moment and the moment corresponding to the end of the probe signal and the known velocity C of the propagation of ultrasound in the product.
The device operates as follows.
The phase-manipulated
The invention improves the accuracy of measuring the thickness of the product due to the fact that the location of the maximum autocorrelation function of the echo signal on the time axis does not depend on the degree of attenuation of ultrasound. With optimal filtering of phase-shifted signals, their maximum value increases to a greater extent, the larger the signal base.
