Abstract
Description
The invention relates to powder metallurgy, in particular, to compositions of a mixture for producing abrasive materials by self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS), and can be used to obtain abrasive material intended for the manufacture of polishing pastes and powders, grinding and cutting tools.
Known mixture to obtain an abrasive material of titanium carbide, which is a mixture of powders of titanium and carbon [1] in the ratio, wt. Ti 80, C 20. The material from the known mixture is obtained by pressing it into briquettes, followed by sintering at a temperature of 2050 about C.
The disadvantages of the known mixture is the high cost of the material obtained, due to the duration and energy intensity of the sintering operation, as well as the increased content of free carbon in the product, which reduces its abrasive ability.
The closest technical solution (prototype) is a mixture for producing an abrasive material of titanium carbide by self-propagating high-temperature synthesis [2] which is a mixture of titanium and carbon powders in the ratio, wt. Ti 80, C 20. An abrasive material from a known charge is obtained by initiating in it a reaction of self-propagating high-temperature synthesis, cooling the resulting cake and its mechanical grinding to the required dispersion of the abrasive material. The abrasive material obtained on the basis of a known charge has sufficient abrasive ability and other operational parameters. However, the sintered material obtained as a result of the synthesis has significant mechanical strength due to the baking of grains of individual carbides and its grinding is associated with lengthy processing, significant energy consumption and involves the use of non-standard equipment.
The essence of the invention lies in the fact that the known mixture for producing an abrasive material containing titanium and carbon additionally contains titanium hydride in the following ratio of components, wt. carbon 20-21, titanium hydride 2-4, the rest is titanium.
The introduction of titanium hydride into the charge contributes to increased gas evolution during the CB synthesis reaction, due to the decomposition of the hydride into metallic titanium and hydrogen, which leads to dispersion of the resulting cake on titanium carbide grains. The introduction of titanium hydride into the charge increases the exothermicity of the reaction, which reduces the content of free carbon and increases the abrasive ability of the resulting material.
When the titanium hydride content in the charge in an amount less than the claimed, its effect is negligible and does not lead to the desired effect of reducing the mechanical strength of the cake. When the content of titanium hydride in the charge in an amount exceeding the declared, there is a spread of the reaction mass and deterioration due to this quality of the obtained abrasive material. The selected ratio of titanium and carbon in the mixture is due to the concentration limits of the interaction necessary to obtain titanium carbide.
A comparative analysis of the proposed solution with the prototype showed that the inventive charge differs from the prototype by the introduction of a new component of titanium hydride. It is the claimed composition of the charge at the indicated concentration ratios of the components that gives the material obtained from the charge new properties. Thus, the claimed solution has novelty.
Comparison of the proposed solutions with other well-known solutions in the field of abrasive materials, as well as well-known solutions in related fields of technology, did not reveal signs that distinguish the claimed solution from the prototype, which allows us to conclude about the inventive step.
For experimental verification of the proposed solutions were prepared samples of the charge of various compositions according to the invention, as well as the charge of the prototype. For experiments, we used PTS titanium powder, colloidal graphite preparation, and TiH stoichiometry powder of TiH with a basic substance content of at least 98.5%. The powders were dosed in predetermined proportions on an analytical balance to the nearest 0.001 g and mixed dry in an air atmosphere in a laboratory mixer of the type drunk barrel "in batches of 200 for 4 hours
The resulting samples of the mixture were briquetted in graphite cups, placed in an evacuated reactor, and the CB synthesis reaction was initiated in them with a heat pulse. The obtained specimen of the material was ground on a cone inertial crusher of the KID type and classified by fractions.
The abrasive ability of the obtained material was determined by the weight of the dry-sanding steel layer 3 under constant grinding conditions (clamping force 0.1 N, test duration 2 min).
The research results are shown in the table. As follows from the table, the introduction of titanium hydride into the mixture allows one to obtain an easily milled sinter of the product while increasing the abrasive ability of the material.
An additional advantage of the inventive charge is the reduction in the cost of the material obtained due to the partial replacement of expensive titanium powder with titanium hydride, which is a secondary product of the processing of titanium raw materials.
