Description
The utility model relates to analytical technique and can be used to measure the concentration of combustible gases such as hydrogen, carbon monoxide and ethane, as well as their humidity.
A known sensor used in the method for measuring oxygen content and gas humidity (RU 2540450, publ. 10.02.2013) [1]. The sensor is an electrochemical cell containing two disks of an oxygen-conducting solid electrolyte, gas tightly connected to each other with the formation of a cavity between them. On the opposite surfaces of the disks are two electrodes: external and internal. Between the disks is diffusion resistance, made in the form of a capillary. Under the action of a voltage applied to the outer and inner electrodes through a solid oxygen-conducting electrolyte, free oxygen in the cell cavity is pumped out, and the oxygen content is determined by the value of the limiting current corresponding to the content of free oxygen in the analyzed gas. With a further increase in voltage, bound oxygen is pumped out of the cell cavity, and the moisture content of the analyzed gas is determined by the value of the limiting current corresponding to the total content of free oxygen in the analyzed gas and the bound oxygen obtained as a result of electrolysis of water vapor.
Thus, this sensor allows you to determine the humidity of inert gases, gas mixtures containing inert gas and oxygen, as well as mixtures of combustible gases with inert gases. But information about the moisture content of a combustible gas without knowing its concentration in the gas stream is insufficient for further use. This requires additional analysis. Obtaining simultaneously and continuously information on the concentration of combustible gas and its humidity will significantly increase the efficiency of the analysis.
Known solid electrolyte sensor used in the method of amperometric measurement of the concentration of combustible gases in nitrogen (RU 2563325, publ. 09/20/2015) [2]. The sensor is an electrochemical cell with a cavity formed by two gas tightly interconnected disks of solid electrolyte, on the opposite surfaces of one of which there is a pair of electrodes. Between the disks is diffusion resistance, made in the form of a capillary. The electrodes are supplied with the voltage necessary to obtain the limiting current flowing through the cell, the value of which determines the concentration of combustible gas in the analyzed gas mixture.
д.This sensor allows you to determine the content of combustible gases, easy to manufacture and reliable in operation. But for a qualitative assessment of combustible gases and their practical use, such a characteristic as humidity is also important. This is especially important for the processes of liquefaction and transportation of gases such as methane, ethane, etc. through pipelines.
The objective of this utility model is to create a sensor capable of measuring both the content of combustible gas and its humidity.
To do this, a sensor is proposed that contains two electrochemical cells based on an oxygen-conducting solid electrolyte, each of which has a cavity formed by two solid electrolyte disks that are tightly connected to each other. These are three disks, on two of which pairs of electrodes are applied: external and internal, and the third, electrodeless, located between them, is common for both cells. A capillary is located in both sensor cavities between the electrode and electrodeless disks. In this case, the cell for determining the concentration of combustible gas is connected to a current source with the possibility of supplying a negative pole to the outer electrode, and the cell for measuring humidity - with the possibility of supplying a negative pole to the inner.
During the measurements, the sensor is immersed in the sample gas stream is heated to a certain temperature in the range of 600-700 C. In one drive electrodes is supplied with a DC voltage such that a negative electrode is supplied to the outer and plus - the inner electrode disk. A DC voltage is applied to the electrodes of another disk in such a way that minus is applied to the internal electrode, and plus to the external electrode of the disk. The analyzed gas washes the external electrodes of the sensor, and also enters the cavities of both cells through the capillaries due to diffusion and washes the internal electrodes of the sensor. Moisture in the analyzed gas dissociates to form oxygen:
Н2О = Н2 +1/2О2. (1)N2O = H2 + 1 / 2O2. (1)
(2-5):Due to the voltage applied to the electrodes of the disk of the cell where plus is supplied to the internal and minus to the external electrode, a current arises in the circuit and oxygen dissociated from moisture is pumped from the analyzed gas washing the cell into the internal cavity of this cell. In the cavity of the cell, the pumped oxygen interacts with the combustible gas, which entered there by capillary from the analyzed medium. At the same time, the process of interaction of a combustible gas with oxygen will intensively go on the surface of the internal electrode of the cell in accordance with reactions (2-5):
Н2 + О2 = Н2О, (2)H 2 + O 2 = H 2 O, (2)
(6):In this case, with an increase in the applied voltage, the current stabilizes and ceases to grow with an increase in voltage. The resulting current is the limiting current, and its value is due to gas exchange between the analyzed medium and the gas in the cell cavity. At the same time, in the cell cavity there is a mixture of the analyzed gas and interaction products according to one of the reactions (2-5). The value of the maximum current of the sensor is limited by the diffusion barrier - the capillary of the sensor and is related to the concentration of combustible gas by equation (6):
где D – коэффициент диффузии горючего газа в азоте, см2/с;where D is the diffusion coefficient of a combustible gas in nitrogen, cm 2 / s;
X(горючий газ) – мольная доля горючего газа в смеси с азотом;X (combustible gas) - molar fraction of combustible gas in a mixture with nitrogen;
S – площадь сечения капилляра, см2;S is the cross-sectional area of the capillary, cm 2 ;
P – общее давление газовой смеси, атм;P is the total pressure of the gas mixture, atm;
T – температура анализа, К;T is the analysis temperature, K;
L is the length of the capillary, see
(7):When voltage is applied to the electrodes of the disk of the cell where plus is supplied to the external and minus to the internal electrodes, current also appears in the circuit. It is already caused by the dissociation of moisture in the cavity and the evacuation from the cavity of the oxygen formed as a result of dissociation through the solid electrolyte into the flow of the analyzed gas washing this cell. The value of this limiting current is also limited by the diffusion barrier - the capillary and is related to the moisture content of the analyzed gas by equation (7):
где D (Н2О-горючий газ) – коэффициент диффузии водяных паров в горючем газе, см2/с;where D (H 2 O-combustible gas) is the diffusion coefficient of water vapor in the combustible gas, cm 2 / s;
X (water vapor) is the mole fraction of moisture in the combustible gas.
Thus, during the measurement process, the respective voltages are applied to the electrodes of the disks of both cells, which are necessary to obtain the limiting currents, the magnitude of which determines both the concentration of combustible gas in the analyzed gas mixture and the humidity of the gas mixture. As a result, the same sensor can measure both the content of flammable gases in a mixture with nitrogen and their humidity.
A new technical result achieved by the claimed solution is to expand the technological capabilities of solid electrolyte sensors.
The utility model is illustrated in the figure, which shows a General view of the inventive sensor.
The sensor consists of three
The voltage is supplied to the
A voltage is applied from the IT2 current source to the
