Description
FIELD OF TECHNOLOGY
The utility model relates to nuclear engineering and relates to gamma-ray detectors containing a protective sheath.
Li6.In SU 563057 A1, publ. 04/23/1981 disclosed a gamma radiation detector containing a shell of the isotope Li 6 .
The disadvantages of the known gamma radiation detector is that in its pure form, the Li 6 isotope is actively oxidized in air, therefore, in the manufacture of the protective material of the detector, it is necessary to apply a protective coating against oxidation on the material of the Li 6 isotope, which complicates the manufacture and cost of the protective material of the detector.
The closest analogue of the claimed utility model is a scintillation detector of gamma radiation, disclosed in RU 2158011 C2, publ. 10/20/2000. The detector known from the closest analogue contains a Bi 4 Ge 3 O 12 scintillation crystal, a photomultiplier (PMT), and a signal processing unit. In this case, the crystal is located in a two-layer collimator, the outer layer of which is made of a hydrogen-containing neutron moderator of polyethylene, and the inner one is made of cadmium. Moreover, the crystal is made with a well in which a neutron-sensitive scintillating substance based on stilbene or plastic is placed.
The disadvantage of the closest analogue is the presence of an inner layer of cadmium, which when interacting with thermal neutrons emits secondary gamma radiation in the region of 558-9044 keV (the most intense line is 558 keV). As a result, the detector will record a large number of background pulses, which will lead to an increase in the detector load and a decrease in the accuracy of the spectrum measurement.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The objective of the proposed technical solution is to develop a gamma radiation detector containing a sheath of protective material, ensuring its measurement accuracy.
The technical result of the utility model is to increase the accuracy of the measurement by the detector.
%: фтористый литий - 38-45; полиэфирная смола - 54,2-60,8; отвердитель - 0,813-1,2.The specified technical result is achieved due to the fact that the gamma-ray scintillation detector comprises a cylindrical body and a shell placed above the body in its upper part, with a Nal-based scintillation crystal placed in the upper part of the body, and a photomultiplier in the lower part of the body optically bonded to the crystal, the shell being made in the form of a glass of a composite solid material containing lithium fluoride, a polyester resin and a hardener - methyl ethyl ketone, followed by the total ratio of components in wt. %: lithium fluoride - 38-45; polyester resin - 54.2-60.8; hardener - 0.813-1.2.

%: фтористый литий - 38-45; полиэфирная смола - 54, 2-60,8; отвердитель - 0,813-1,2.In FIG. 1 shows a scintillation detector of gamma radiation, which contains a cylindrical body (1) and a shell (2) located above the body (1) in its upper part. Moreover, inside the casing (1) in its upper part there is a Nal-based scintillation crystal (3), and in the lower part of the casing there is a PMT (4) optically coupled to the crystal (3), while the casing (2) is made in the form of a glass of composite solid material containing lithium fluoride, a polyester resin and a hardener - methyl ethyl ketone, in the following ratio of components in wt. %: lithium fluoride - 38-45; polyester resin - 54, 2-60.8; hardener - 0.813-1.2.
A gamma scintillation detector operates as follows. As a result of the interaction of thermal neutrons with the material of the protective shell (2), gamma rays arise, while the shell (2) absorbs thermal neutrons, preventing them from reaching the crystal (3). A gamma quantum passing through a scintillator - Nal crystal (3), along with the ionization of atoms and molecules excites them. Returning to an unexcited (ground) state, atoms emit photons. The photons entering the PMT cathode (4) knock out the electrons, as a result of which an electric pulse appears on the PMT anode (4), which is further amplified by a PMT amplifier (4) and is recorded by the electronic signal processing unit (not shown in Fig. 1) connected to the connectors (5) of the PMT (4) of the detector through a cable.
Thus, the detector registers particles (gamma rays, neutrons, etc.) flying through the Nal crystal. The LiF composite shell is designed to shield the detector crystal from neutron radiation.
The table shows the results of experiments during the operation of the inventive detector containing a shell of a composite material.
As experiments showed (see table), the claimed composite material shell effectively contributes to the absorption of neutron radiation, which leads to a decrease in the detection of background radiation by the detector and, consequently, to an increase in the accuracy of measuring the gamma-ray spectrum. This is due to the fact that, unlike the protective material used for the closest analogue shell, as well as the boron polyethylene, which is the most effective protective material from neutron radiation, in the claimed shell the composite material based on lithium fluoride does not have accompanying gamma radiation lines during interaction lithium with thermal neutrons, in contrast to the material of the closest analogue and boron polyethylene, which have lines of secondary gamma radiation of 558 and 478 keV, respectively. This can significantly reduce the detection of background radiation by the detector along the lines indicated above and, as a result, increase the accuracy of the spectrum measurement. The application of this solution allows to improve the parameters of neutron radiation analysis facilities, to simplify their design and maintenance.
Thus, the proposed utility model allows to obtain a gamma radiation detector containing a sheath of protective material, ensuring its measurement accuracy.
