Abstract

Metals, pref. steel or galvanised steel, are coated by a spray process to give a perfect phosphate layer, by use of an acid phosphating soln. cotng. 0.2-0.5 g/l. Zn(2+), 0-1 g/l. Ni(2+), 8-20 g/l. P2O5, 0.05-0.2 g/l. NO(2-), and/or 0.1-1 g/l. Nitrobenzene sulphonate, together with at least one activator selected from fluoride, hexafluorosilicate, tetrafluoroborate, formate, flycollate, nitrile triacetate, trichloracetate, ethylenediamine tetra-acetate, citrate, tartrate and condensed phosphate. Pref. at least one fluoride, hexafluorosilicate and tetrafluorobrate activator is used, with at least one citrate, tartrate and phsophate activator.
