The process comprises chlorination of pipecholic L-acid, the resulting chloride being then reacted with 2,6-xylidine. This gives pipecholic-2,6-xylidide L,N acid, propylation of which gives prod. of formula (I). The prod. has relatively low toxicity to mammals, including humans.
