Inklinometr optoelektroniczny posiada pion mechaniczny w postaci cięgna (3), na którym zamocowany jest sygnał kontrolowany (9), ponadto posiada on ramę odniesienia (4). Z ramą odniesienia (4) połączone są co najmniej cztery sygnały odniesienia (7), które są osadzone w jednej płaszczyźnie XY, w lokalnym kartezjańskim układzie współrzędnych XYZ. Jeżeli liczba sygnałów odniesienia (7) wynosi m to ilość sygnałów odniesienia (7), które nie mogą leżeć na jednej prostej wynosi m-1.
