Abstract
Provided is a method for producing a cobalt powder wherein, to produce a cobalt powder from a solution containing a sulfuric acid cobalt ammine complex, the addition amount of a seed crystal is controlled so as to achieve a high reaction efficiency. A method for producing a cobalt powder characterized in that the cobalt powder is produced by successively conducting the following steps: a mixing step for, to a solution containing a sulfuric acid cobalt ammine complex, adding as a seed crystal a cobalt powder in an amount of 1.5-3.0 times, inclusive, as much as the amount of cobalt contained in the aforesaid solution and then adding 1.5-3.0 wt pcnt , relative to the amount of the seed crystal added, of a dispersant to give a mixture slurry; and a reduction and deposition step for introducing the mixture slurry into a reaction tank, blowing hydrogen gas into the mixture slurry so as to reduce cobalt complex ion contained in the mixture slurry and thus forming cobalt deposits on the surface of the seed crystal.
