Abstract
wall frame comprises top and bottom plates and studs extending therebetween. The studs comprise respective lengths of metal section opposed ends of which are connected to the top and bottom plates via respective timber pieces.
Claims (17)
1. A wall frame comprising top and bottom plates and studs extending therebetween, wherein the studs comprise respective lengths of metal section opposed ends of which are 5 connected to the top and bottom plates via respective timber pieces.
2. A wall frame according to claim 1, wherein the top and bottom plates are secured to the pieces by respective fasteners received downwardly and upwardly, respectively, therethrough.
3. A wall frame according to either one of the preceding claims, wherein the lengths of metal section comprise respective wall portions fixed against side and edge faces of said pieces. 15
4. A wall frame according to claim 3, wherein the wall portions comprise ones which are fixed against opposite faces of said pieces.
5. A wall frame according to claim 4, wherein said opposite faces comprise side faces. 20
6. A wall frame according to any one of claims 3 to 5, wherein the lengths of metal section comprise webs and flanges defining respective ones of said wall portions.
7. A wall frame according to claim 6 as appended to claim 5, wherein the flanges define the wall portions fixed against said side faces.
8. A wall frame according to any one of claims 3 to 7, including fasteners which project into said pieces to fix ones of said wall portions against respective ones of said faces of said pieces. 30

A wall frame according to claim 8, including nail plates comprising plate sections received against respective ones of said wall portions and teeth projecting from the plate sections, through openings formed in the respective wall portions, and into said pieces, thereby defining ones of said fasteners.
10. A wall frame according to claim 8 or 9, including driven fastening elements received 5 through ones of said wall portions and into said pieces to fix them against the respective faces, thereby defining ones of said fasteners.
11. A wall frame according to any one of claims 8 to 10, wherein said fasteners comprise formations punched from within ones of said wall portions to project therefrom into said 10 pieces.
12. A wall frame according to claim 11, wherein said formations comprise teeth.
13. A wall frame according to any one of the preceding claims. including at least one 15 brace secured against ones of said studs or lengths of metal section between the upper and lower ends, the brace comprising a length of strip or strap material.
14. A method of fabricating a wall frame according to any one of the preceding claims, comprising interconnecting said ends via said pieces.
15. A method according to claim 14, comprising connecting to the top and bottom plates preassemblies comprising the lengths of metal section and pieces fixed to said ends thereof.
16. Said preassemblies for connection to the top and bottom plates in a method according 25 to claim 15.
17. A method of forming a preassembly according to claim 16, comprising inserting timber pieces axially into said ends and fixing the inserted pieces to said ends.
