Abstract

trap for immobilizing, killing, or containing arthropods comprises a housing having a front and back wall, where the walls define an interior space; and a suppression element in the form of a glueboard mounted on the back wall in the interior space and constructed to immobilize, kill, or contain arthropods. The trap also comprise first and second LED lights positioned so that a majority of the light emitted from the first LED with wavelengths ranging from 450nm to 500nm is directed at the glueboard and light from the second LED with wavelengths ranging from 350nm to 450nm is pointed outside of the trap above the back wall. The current invention utilises the directional beam of the LED lights with suitable wavelengths to help lure and traps flies with improved efficacy.

Claims

CLAIMS 5 1. A trap for capturing flies comprising: (a) a front wall and a back wall, the front wall and back wall defining an interior space, and an opening for flies to enter the trap; (b) a first glueboard mounted on the back wall inside of the interior 10 space; (c) a first LED light having a wavelength from about 450 nm to about 500 nm and directed at the first ard, and a second

1.LED light having a wavelength from about 350 nm to about 450 nm and directed outside of the trap above the back wall; 15 and (d) a power source.

2. The trap of claim 1, wherein the opening is at least 7.62 centimeters (3 inches) in its smallest dimension.

3. The trap of claim 1 or claim 2, wherein the front wall is moveable.

4. The trap of any one of claims 1-3, wherein the front wall is removable. 25

5. The trap of any one of claims 1-4, n the first glueboard is removable.

6. The trap of any one of claims 1-5, wherein the first glueboard is replaceable.

7. The trap of any one of claims 1-6, wherein the first glueboard is a color ed 30 from the group consisting of white and black.

8. The trap of any one of claims 1-7, wherein the first LED light or second LED light is a low voltage LED.

9. The trap of any one of claims 1-8, wherein the first LED light or second LED 5 light has a voltage that is less than 50 V.

10. The trap of any one of claims 1-9, wherein the power source is a battery unit.

11. The trap of any one of claims 1-10, wherein the battery unit is rechargeable.

12. The trap of any one of claims 1-11, wherein the power source is an electric cord configured to connect to a power outlet.

13. The trap of any one of claims 1-12, further comprising a bait and/or an 15 insecticide.

14. The trap of claim 13, wherein the bait is selected from the group ting of a food source and a pheromone. 20
