Abstract

598902 A rotating telescopic column includes an outer sleeve (7) (not shown) with interior splines, and a telescopic inner sleeve (11) located inside the outer sleeve (7) and that has a corresponding number of outer slots that inter-engage with the splines to allow the telescopic inner sleeve to slide inside the outer sleeve but prevent the telescopic sleeve from turning relative to the outer sleeve. A clamping mechanism 16, 19, 20 is attached to the outer sleeve and clamps the telescopic sleeve to the outer sleeve when the telescopic sleeve is in a selected axial position relative to the outer sleeve. An axle (10) is located inside the telescopic sleeve (11) and can rotate within the telescopic inner sleeve without being affected by the clamping of the inner sleeve to the outer sleeve. An arm 3 may be fixed to the top end of the axle 10 with a table surface for a laptop computer attached to the other end of the arm.
