Abstract

587184 Processes for manufacturing non woven mats containing inorganic fibres, and having relatively high loft and thermal rating. The process involve two fibre opening stages, typically a first coarse opening stage followed by a second finer stage, preferably involving a squeeze roller, nosebar and lickerin. The second stage may result in a layered mat. Inorganic fibres may be blended with polymer melt fibres before the first opening stage, or with a binder at a suitable point after the opening stages. The mats may be used for thermal insulation products.
