Abstract

The invention concerns a system consisting of a terminal linked by a transmission line to a central unit, the terminal comprising a memory divided into a program memory and a RAM-type working memory, the program memory itself comprising a volatile memory, an EEPROM or battery-operated RAM-type backup memory and a ROM or PROM-type non-volatile memory, characterized in that each of the memories constituting the program memory is divided into a non-certified area, the terminal further comprising an interpreter program, which performs the interpretation between a program written in a compact high-level and universal language and the language specific to the terminal microprocessor, the interpreter program being capable of accessing each of the memory divisions and a test program of the downloading system consisting of at least one CHSB instruction, whose command word is stored in one of the registers and expresses the downloading possibilities of the different areas.
