Description
INNRETNING FOR HÅNDTERING OG OPPBEVARING AV ANKERE,DEVICE FOR HANDLING AND STORAGE OF ANCHORS,
PÅ HAVSEILERE. ON SEA SAILORS.
The invention consists of a device which should make it easier to release, pick up and store an anchor, preferably on ocean sailors.
There are a number of different types of anchors/drags on the market for use on pleasure boats. These are stored in the bow or stern and thrown out from the respective places.
Depending on the boat type and size, the anchors are stored in specially designed living rooms or in the more general living rooms, which is both cumbersome and not very appropriate. In recent times, it has become more common to have anchors integrated into the bow of the boat, preferably in combination with a roller and winch.
However, a bow anchor has its limited area of application when anchoring and it is still the case that there is a more frequent need to drop anchor and haul it aft, especially on boats with a keel.
The problem with this is several: when the anchor reaches the surface when hauling up, firstly the weight increases as the buoyancy disappears and secondly the anchor must be held out from the boat's hull by muscle power on its way up to row height. The anchor must then be lifted over the row itself and then carried to the storage room.
The anchor is usually equipped with a chain or lead rope before the anchor line itself takes over. Often, the anchor is also filled with sand and stones from the bottom, all of which contribute to making hauling up more difficult. As the yachts continue to get bigger, the weight of the anchors follows suit. In other words, this is heavy physical work, impractical and represents a not insignificant safety risk.
It is also important to be able to release the anchor at exactly the right time and place in an anchoring situation. This operation must often be carried out by the same person who will steer the boat and lead the whole thing. A corresponding problem is during hauling in because there is often little time when and if the helmsman has to take care of a number of other tasks.
These operations must take place when the conditions are most difficult, e.g. that due to wind and current the boat is in danger of drifting into grounds or other boats.
Å få løst et anker kan i seg selv være et slit, og hvis dessuten Getting an anchor loose can in itself be a chore, and if moreover
lengden på linen er stor, tar det sin tid før ankeret er oppe under the length of the line is great, it takes time before the anchor is up underneath
It would be a great advantage here if the anchor could be left hanging in the water both to wash the anchor and to give the helmsman, if he takes care of the hauling, time to maneuver the boat. In many cases, it is also relevant to let the anchor out again soon afterwards and time and effort will be saved by arranging an arrangement that allows this.
None of the patents that have come to light in the investigation can replace this solution either in function, form or purpose.
US pat. US Pat. 4.526.123 and 4.556.007 are intended for bow anchors on motor boats and will be completely unsuitable for sailing boats, aft under any circumstances.
US pat. US Pat. 4,479,452 can only be mounted on the stern itself, also on a motor boat. Apart from the fact that the device cannot be adapted to an ocean-going sailboat, an anchor placed on the hull itself will come down into the sea when the sailboat is in motion. Moreover, it is only arranged for Danforth anchors.
US pat. US Pat. 4.362.119 has a swing-out davit that can be supported with an inclined strut. The device is assumed to be mounted on the push pipe and this must take all loads and stresses. Such a device can only work if it is mounted on the pushpipe, and there will only be a few boats where this is designed in such a way that the device fits in. But the most important thing in the patent context is that the device has not relied on a combined storage and handling function. On the other hand, you have to lift the anchor into place over the davit when setting out and correspondingly when you have to take the anchor up again. This will probably be heavier than if you have a conventional roller on the row.
A couple of Norwegian systems that have recently come on the market do not exist as countermeasures and should not represent any competition either. They are as much unilaterally suitable for motorboats as the patent applied for here is almost exclusively suitable for sea sailors. Nor are they intended for the same functions.
The patent applied for construction aims to remedy the described problems.
The construction is attached to the row (on the outside) of the boat's keel, (possibly aft if it faces inwards).
In the folded position, it is all assembled into a slim post with two visible rollers on top.
The shackle that fastens the line/chain to the anchor lies close up under the outermost roller and the anchor hangs down to the "doll table" in a folded position. It is all held together by a strap etc.
When the anchor is to be used, by loosening a little of the anchor line that is fixed to a cross hole on the inside of the pole, the arm falls down and the anchor hangs below it just above the water's surface and the line is fixed in this position.
The anchor is now ready to be released under full control simply by untying the line/chain from the cross-holt/hook/clamcleat.
When the anchor is out, the anchor line can be handled as usual independently of the stand and attached where it suits best, starboard or port cross-holt, possibly in the bow.
(Om ønskes kan nå stativet slås sammen for å være av veien.)(If desired, the stand can now be folded to be out of the way.)
When the anchor is to be brought up again, it is initially hauled in and up as usual, possibly only using the inner roller. When the anchor reaches the surface of the water, the line/chain is also laid over the outer roller, which is in the unfolded position. You can now, if desired, secure the line while other tasks are taken care of. If you now set the boat in motion, you will have the anchor washed clean.
When the time has come for one to take care of the anchor again, a line is pulled all the way in until it stops. Then the anchor will be lifted up towards the row at the same time as the stand is folded and the anchor is kept ready by the hull all the time. Finally, the strap that holds it all together is put in place and the boat is seaworthy.
Most boats are somewhat different both in terms of hull and row design and the stand therefore has adjustable fasteners that should be able to fit in most situations, possibly exchangeable with other parties. The top and bottom mount can be adjusted in height and at the same time turned in relation to the stand's axis.
In the following, the invention will be explained in more detail with reference to the drawings which show an embodiment based on profiles in aluminum or stainless steel. The example also shows the anchor reel and (partial) chain between anchor and line. But none of these latter things are a prerequisite for the system to work.

The device is shaped like a (vertical) post attached to the boat's row (pushpit) and runs from the deck to the upper edge of the row.
The support post (1) itself has as its starting point a u-profile with a free-running roller (3) at the upper free end, and a longitudinally adjustable fixing bracket (7) at the lower end.
An opening (16) is cut out midway on the post, and into this is inserted the end of a pivoting arm (2) which is fixed with a bolt.
At its free end, the arm (2) has a free-running roller (4) and is provided on one side with a lip (11) that is pushed on to bring the arm out into the lowered position (fig. A, E and F) .
The arm (2) fits into the profile of the post (1) and disappears into it in the folded position (fig. C and G), with the exception of the roller (4) which protrudes.
When the arm (2) is lowered, it stops in a position perpendicular to the post (1) due to that the arm runs through the hole (16). The inside-protruding end (17) of the arm (2) is used to step on when you want to lift the arm up with the help of the foot.
On the outside of the lower half of the post (1), a (molded) transverse support (5) is mounted against which the anchor rests in the stowed position (fig. G). The support is shaped so that it can be fixed in 3 different positions around the vertical axis. This further increases the customization possibilities. In the support plate (5) there are holes to be able to thread through the strap/rope (13) for locking the anchor in the stored position. The support plate is fixed with through bolts to the post (1) and these also serve to fasten a cross-holt (6) to the post.
On the inside of the upper half of the post, a mounting bracket (8) is mounted which is adjustable in height and serves to attach the device to the row (10) by means of hoops that run through holes in the plate.
Several holes have been made in the fitting so that the post (19) can be turned around the vertical axis.
