Description
Foreliggende oppfinnelse vedrører korrosjonsinhibitorer for drivstoffer. The present invention relates to corrosion inhibitors for fuels.
It is known to use petrol/alcohol mixtures as fuel for Otto engines, especially cars. Such fuels can e.g. consist of 80-99 parts by volume of petrol (hydrocarbons) and 20-1 parts by volume of alcohol, such as methanol and/or ethanol. Furthermore, it is possible to use alcohol, or a mixture consisting mainly of alcohol, e.g. methanol, or as e.g. is added up to 40 parts by volume of hydrocarbons, as fuel. Such mixtures generally contain only a small amount of water (1.5-4$). Nevertheless, such alcohols or mixtures thereof with hydrocarbons cause corrosion problems, e.g. on Iron, zinc, magnesium and aluminum parts and metal alloys, especially on structural parts, e.g. fixtures, cars, taps and fuel tanks. This is due to, among other things, the alcohol's content of formic acid and acetic acid, which is conditioned by the compounds' technical preparation.
From DE-OS 34 33 554 it is known to reduce this corrosion by using certain phosphoric acid esters. However, such phosphoric acid esters cannot be used with fuels to be used for cars equipped with catalytic converters. Consequently, there is also a need for phosphorus-free corrosion inhibitors that prevent corrosion caused by fuels containing alcohol.
The invention relates to phosphorus-free corrosion inhibitors for fuels, containing a mixture of benzotriazole and/derivatives of benzotriazole and tolyltriazole and/or derivatives of tolyltriazole, sodium boron heptonate and an alkylene oxide addition product of primary or secondary amines. Ethylene glycol and/or methanol and/or ethanol can preferably also be present, but also other mono-, di- and polyalcohols such as e.g. C-L-C20-alkone°ler »propylene glycol, butylene glycol, glycerol etc. Very suitable alkene oxides are ethylene oxide, propene oxide and mixtures thereof. As amine, tallow aminopropylamine is preferably used and reacted with 25-30 mol of ethylene oxide, however, other primary and secondary amines are also well suited according to the invention, especially longer-chain amines, di- and polyamines, also with branches.
A typical corrosion inhibitor according to the invention contains, for example, benzotriazole and tolyltriazole, sodium boron heptonate, an ethylene oxide addition product of primary and/or secondary amines, ethylene glycol and methanol and/or ethanol as solvent.
These corrosion inhibitors can be easily dissolved in fuels and have a corrosion-inhibiting effect that is comparable to, and partly superior to, the effect of the phorsfor-containing inhibitors. They can be particularly advantageously used as fuel for cars with catalytic converters. Such fuels can, for example, contain 80% by volume of hydrocarbons, 1-10% by volume of ethanol, 1-10% by volume of methanol and 1-10% by volume of tert.butanol. 80-99 volume percent methanol and/or ethanol, and approx. 1-20 volume percent hydrocarbons, as well as 50-500 ppm (on the basis of the alcohol content) of a corrosion inhibitor according to claims 1-8, or containing approx. 80-99 volume percent of an alcohol mixture, consisting of at least two alcohols from the group of aliphatic C^-C^g alcohols, and approx. 1-20 volume percent hydrocarbons and 50-500 ppm (on the basis of the alcohol proportion) of a corrosion inhibitor according to claims 1-8.
In such fuels, the corrosion inhibitors are used in amounts of 50-500 ppm (on the basis of the alcohol content), preferably in amounts of 50-300 ppm, and particularly preferably in amounts of 60-120 ppm. The corrosion inhibitors contain, for example in the following composition, the various synergistically acting active substances preferably in the following proportions: a "mixture of benzotriazole, respectively derivative, and tolyltriazole, respectively derivative, in an amount of 10-15 wt-#, sodium boroheptonate in a amount of 5-6 wt-#, an addition product of ethylene oxide to tallow aminopropylamine (25-30 moles of ethylene oxide per mole of amine), which also has a dispersing effect, in an amount of 3 to 12 wt-# and ethylene glycol, which also serves as a solvent, in an amount of 35 to 45% by weight. All the active substances dissolved in, for example, methanol or ethanol together constitute, for example, an amount of 60 to 65% by weight.
However, other weight ratios are also suitable according to the invention. The various components of the corrosion inhibitors can be easily mixed with each other. In order to achieve a clear dissolution of the active substances in as little methanol or ethanol as possible, it is advantageous, as an example, without this method being required, to first dissolve only part of the mixture of benzotriazole and tolyltriazole (e.g. 8 parts and 2 parts), of sodium boroheptonate (4 parts) and ethylene glycol (30 parts) in anhydrous methanol or ethanol (30 parts), then the ethylene oxide addition product of tallow aminopropylamine is added to this basic mixture and further proportions of the previously mentioned active substances as well as methanol or ethanol is added until the desired concentration.
