Description
The present invention relates to a treatment agent for the production of cast iron with nodular or vermicular graphite and a method for its production.
It is known to use magnesium-containing treatment agents for the production of cast iron with nodular or vermicular graphite. The addition of magnesium improves the strength properties of the cast iron due to its ability to transfer graphite to spherical or compact graphite form. Admittedly, it is in principle possible to introduce metallic magnesium into the liquid iron, however, due to the associated risk of explosion, special precautions are necessary which are mostly technically very complicated.
Therefore, instead of metallic magnesium, attempts have been made to also use magnesium-containing alloys such as e.g. ferrosilicon magnesium. Even so, violent or irregular reactions can occur, whereby there is a risk of liquid cast iron spreading from the treatment container.
According to DE-AS 18 00 447, an attempt has been made to solve this problem by using a mixture of fine-grained calcium silicon or ferrosilicon magnesium which is coated with salts of alkaline earth metals or rare earth species. Quite apart from the fact that the production of such coatings causes increased energy costs due to the drying, it is not always advantageous to introduce additional components into the smelting.
From DE-OS 17 58 768, there are known treatment agents which exhibit a coating of refractory mass, whereby the intensity of the reaction is to be dampened and the treatment controlled. Finally, it is proposed in DE-OS 21 57 395 to coat fine-grained magnesium-containing ferrosilicon alloys with powdery, binder-containing treatment substances of graphite, sulfur or metals, whereby condensation resins, starch or cellulose derivatives or inorganic substances such as water glass are used as binders. The shortcoming of all these known means lies in the fact that they must be equipped with some kind of coating in a further method step and that in this way unwanted substances are partly introduced into the smelting.
The present invention therefore has the task of developing a treatment agent for cast iron melts on the basis of ferrosilicon magnesium with a silicon content of 40 to 80% and a magnesium content of 1 to 15%, which does not exhibit the aforementioned shortcomings, and which without having to resort to additional coating enables a smooth and shock-free reaction.
According to the invention, the task is solved by a ferrosilicon magnesium of the above-mentioned composition in the form of a granule with a specific surface area of 0.2 to 0.8 m/g.
It has surprisingly turned out that the agent according to the invention, with its specific specific surface, enters into an extremely smooth and calm reaction with the iron melt. In addition to this, the cast iron pieces produced using the treatment agent according to the invention show few slag and surface defects, which could not be predicted.
The treatment agent according to the invention is ferrosilicon magnesium granulate and exhibits next to a specific surface according to BET between 0.2 and 0.8 m<2>/g, suitably a grain size of 0.1 to 20 mm, and preferably 1 to 3 mm. This specific surface area is thus significantly larger than that of normal, crushed ferrosilicon magnesium particles of the same grain size. This large specific surface is due to the porous and incised surface structure of the granulate, which is conditioned by the manufacturing method.
In a preferred embodiment, the agent according to the invention also contains 2 to 50% by weight of fluorides of alkaline earth metals such as e.g. CaF2 or MgF2» and/or of rare earths, calculated on the weight of the treatment agent. These additives have a positive effect on slag formation. In addition to this, the ferrosilicon magnesium granulate according to the invention can also contain 0.1 to 5% by weight of rare earths, calculated on the weight of the treatment agent, whereby the rare earths preferably consist of 40 to 100% and especially 40 to 50% cerium or 100% lanthanum. These additions further improve nodular graphite formation in the cast iron.
Fallhøyden for smeltestrålen utgjør fortrinnsvis omtrent o,1-1,0 m. This granule structure is achieved according to the invention by directing a melt jet of a ferrosilicon magnesium alloy towards a shock plate of refractory material and allowing the melt droplets thrown back from this shock plate to solidify in a liquid-filled catch container. The basic principle of this granulation method is known for producing granules with a smooth surface and can e.g. carried out with an arrangement according to DE-AS 10 24 315. When it comes to the ferro-silicon-magnesium melt, surprisingly, however, the usual granules with a smooth surface are not obtained, but on the contrary a grain rich in gaps with a porous surface structure and a large specific surface. The drop height for the melt jet is preferably approximately 0.1-1.0 m. The desired grain size range from 0.1 to 20 mm, preferably 1 to 3 mm, is thus achieved. As the grain size also depends on the throughput of the smelter, it is recommended to use the molten ferrisilicon magnesium alloy in an amount of 50 to 500 kg/min. It is also possible to work with other quantities and drop heights, however, the parameters indicated above have proven to be particularly advantageous.
The nature of the liquid in the catch container has little or no influence on the surface properties and the specific surface. In the meantime, chemically inert behavior towards the liquid ferrosilicon magnesium alloy is necessary. For economic reasons, an aqueous liquid is preferred. The ferro-silicon magnesium treatment agent according to the invention, which exhibits a silicon proportion of 40 to 80% and a magnesium proportion of 0.5 to 15%, is used for the production of cast iron with nodular or vermicular graphite, preferably in an amount of 0.1-4% by weight , calculated on the weight of the iron melt. The treatment can take place according to the usual procedure such as e.g. The sandwich method or the Inmold method, whereby in the Sandwich method one can waive an uncovering of the ferrosilicon magnesium granulate with a steel chip or iron shaving due to the extremely calm and even reaction, without the yield of magnesium falling significantly due to loss of glow.
P.g.a. den jevne og støtfrie reaksjon oppnår man imidlertid ikke bare høye magnesiumutbytter men reduserer også samtidig materialtap p.g.a. spruting. Because of. the smooth and shock-free reaction, however, not only achieves high magnesium yields but also simultaneously reduces material loss due to spraying.
The treatment agent according to the invention causes a higher tendency to ferrite formation than comparable magnesium-containing agents, whereby the toughness values in the cast iron pieces can be improved to a decisive extent. In addition to this, the cast iron pieces show less slag and surface defects so that the quality of the cast iron is also raised.
De følgende eksempler skal belyse oppfinnelsen nærmere. The following examples will illustrate the invention in more detail.
Eksempel 1Example 1
En ferrosilisiummagnesiumlegering med følgende sammensetning: A ferrosilicon magnesium alloy with the following composition:
smeltes i en induksjonsovn og helles ved hjelp av en transportpanne i en grafittdigel som virker som trakt og som oppviser et utløpstverrsnitt på 20 mm. is melted in an induction furnace and poured using a transport pan into a graphite crucible which acts as a funnel and which has an outlet cross-section of 20 mm.
Partiklene som oppnås i granulat-form oppviser følgende kornstørrelsesfordeling: The molten alloy with a temperature of 1450°C leaves the hopper at a rate of 80 kg/min. and hits in the form of a casting jet on a shock plate of refractory material located 0.64 m below the outlet opening. From this plate, the liquid material is thrown back in the form of small drops and is captured in a water-filled container located 4.5 m below the plate. The particles obtained in granule form exhibit the following grain size distribution:
Den spesifikke overflate utgjør i gjennomsnitt 0,35 m /g. The specific surface averages 0.35 m/g.
Eksempel 2Example 2
In a hot-air cupola furnace, 1,500 kg of base iron is melted and desulphurised with 2.5% by weight of calcium carbide. The iron melt is then transferred to a mains frequency induction furnace whereby, after superheating to 1530°C, the following composition is achieved:
Denne jernsmelte behandles efter Sandwichmetoden med ferrosilisiummagnesiumgranulat med en kornstørrelse på 0,5 til 6 mm og spesifikk overflate 0,3 m /g og følgende sammensetning: This iron melt is processed according to the Sandwich method with ferrosilicon magnesium granules with a grain size of 0.5 to 6 mm and a specific surface area of 0.3 m/g and the following composition:
For this purpose, 26.25 kg of the treatment agent is first introduced into the bottom pocket of the treatment pan, whereby the granulate is not covered with steel shavings. The molten iron is then poured into the pan at a temperature of 1520°C so that the iron jet does not hit the granules in the bottom pocket directly. The reaction, which is finished after 33 seconds, shortly before filling the pan, proceeds calmly and smoothly and without the strong smoke development that occurs with analogous magnesium treatments.
Efter avtrekking av slagget viser analysen følgende vardi: After subtracting the slag, the analysis shows the following value:
The magnesium yield is 57%, despite the fact that a cover was waived.
The subsequent inoculation with 0.25% FeSi 75 takes place as pan inoculation by re-pouring in the ladle.
The metallographic examination of the cast objects with a weight thickness between 8 and 35 mm showed in all cross-sections a formation of at least 90% nodular graphite with 80 to 90% ferri and 10 to 20% pearlite as network constituents. Cementite was not found in any of the examined samples. In addition to this, the cast objects are free from reaction products and slag formation.
To test the ferrite formation tendency in the forging, wall thickness samples with wall thicknesses of 2.5, 5, 7.5 and 10 mm were cast and these were examined metallographically. Corresponding to the wall thickness, the ferrite proportion drops from 70% at 10 mm wall thickness to 40% at 2.5 mm wall thickness. All samples are free of cementite.
På en Y - 30 mm prøve bestemte man i henhold til DIN 1693 fasthetsverdiene: In accordance with DIN 1693, the strength values were determined on a Y - 30 mm sample:
Eksempel 3 Example 3
For fremstilling av støpejern med kulegrafitt i henhold til Inmold-fremgangsmåten blir basis jernet smeltet i en støpeovn med tappehull, hvorved temperaturen i smeiten utgjør 1445°C og jernet oppviser følgende sammensetning: For the production of cast iron with nodular graphite according to the Inmold method, the base iron is melted in a casting furnace with tapping holes, whereby the temperature in the smelting is 1445°C and the iron has the following composition:
Ferrosili-siummagnesiumbehandlingsmidlet oppviser en spesifikk overflate på 0,45 m /g og består av: For the casting of a casting with a weight of 29.8 kg, an intermediate chamber arranged to receive the ferrosilicon magnesium granulate is filled up with a volume of approx. 300 cm or 209 g of granules with a grain size of 1 to 3 mm so that the chamber is approximately half full. The ferrosilicon magnesium treatment agent has a specific surface area of 0.45 m/g and consists of:
The pouring took place within 9 seconds, whereby the reaction during the pouring was very calm and smooth and no after-reactions could be noticed after the finished pouring. After the intermediate chamber was crushed, it turned out that all the ferrosilicon magnesium granules had been taken up by the melt that flowed through the intermediate chamber.
The final analysis of the cast sample was as follows:
In the metallographic investigations carried out at a wall thickness of 8 mm, the formation of nodular graphite showed more than 95% at a ferrite content of 95 to 100% and a residual pearlite content of 0 to 6% as constituents. By crushing the castings using a press, fracture specimens are obtained whose fracture surfaces are free of inclusions.
