Description
The present invention relates to a device for transforming the movement energy in sea waves into useful energy, for example electricity.
The device consists of a mass - spring swing system comprising two water chambers (1, 2) which are connected to a float (3) via spring connections (4a) and brakes (4b). The float (3) is further anchored to an underwater buoy (9) via a line (7), springs (4a) and brakes (4b). The buoy (9) is anchored via a line (10) to foundations (14) on the seabed.
The mass-spring system has a natural frequency that is equal to or lower than the frequency of the sea waves. When the float (3) is affected by sea waves, the components (1, 2, 3) will swing in a vertical direction in relation to each other. In addition, said components and the buoy (9) will swing slightly in a horizontal direction. As the mass-spring system has a natural frequency that is equal to or lower than the frequency of the sea waves, energy will be transferred from the sea waves to the mass-spring system. The energy is extracted by using the brakes (4b) which automatically adjust the braking forces so that they correspond to the critical damping forces of the mass - spring swing system. The braking force is used to generate electrical energy.
It is a previously known mass-spring swing system for extracting energy from sea waves. Reference is made to earlier patent no. 330490 which shows a mass - spring swing system which utilizes the energy in vertical and horizontal movements. The present invention is an improvement in relation to previous technology in that it includes a practical solution for anchoring wave power devices on seas or oceans with great depth. In addition, the energy is utilized in the horizontal movements between the buoy (9) and the float (3).
For a further description of the present invention, reference is made to the attached drawings which show several wave power devices connected to a common anchoring system. Figures 1 and 2 show a wave power plant consisting of four wave power devices seen from the side and in perspective.
