Description
The invention relates to a rope as stated in the introduction to patent claim 1.1. In the following, "rope" will be used as a common term for ropes that have dimensions between 10 and 400 mm. The invention also includes a method as stated in the introduction to patent claim 2 for the production of ropes.
Bakgrunn Background
Lanyards are intended for heavy stress over a long period of time, especially lanyards to be used in a maritime environment, for example for moorings offshore. High demands are placed on durability and longevity.
From US patent 4534163 (New England Ropes, 1985) it is known to cross-wound a rope core of parallel fibers with tape. To ensure increased wear resistance, this winding construction is coated with a layer of liquid plastic. But this is not a satisfactory solution, neither in terms of cost nor to satisfy the requirements for durability in demanding use.
US patent 4312260 (Rhone-Poulenc-Textile) shows a cable with a braided sheath, where the key seems to be the use of a binder in the core. Regarding the kappa, it is only stated that the braided outer part is bound together with binder that is pressed into the core.
US patent 4640178 (Teufelberger 1987) also describes a braided cover, the purpose of which is to provide reduced internal friction to reduce wear during buckling. At the same time, it is suggested to give the rope a cover to increase the external friction, e.g. for climbing ropes. This is an instruction that will not provide improvements in the case of tackles for demanding off-short purposes and the like.
From US patent 5934168 (Teufelberger 1999) it is known to make ropes with friction-increasing protrusions, i.e. with a purpose that is the opposite of the invention.
From US patent 6099961 (Petrobras) a rope is known where a strip of plastic foil is wrapped around the core to prevent particles from penetrating the rope and increasing wear. The cape is braided and there is no indication of weaving or the use of multifilament ribbon as cape material.
The known ropes and hawsers have therefore had weaknesses when used offshore under demanding conditions.
The main purpose of the invention is to arrive at a durable rope that has a long life for demanding purposes.
In particular, it is an aim to create a rope that has a smooth and durable outer surface, and which in this way can withstand wear and stress, such as buckling, in a better way than known ropes.
In addition, it is an aim to create a rope that has such a dense surface that the penetration of contamination, such as sand and grit, or the risk of sticking foreign objects, such as fish hooks, is significantly reduced.
It is also an aim to find a method for the production of such a rope.
Oppfinnelsen The invention
The invention is stated in patent claim 1. Such a rope has a protective sheath with extreme wear resistance and resistance to the penetration of foreign elements. At the same time, it can have a much smaller bending radius than ropes with conventional plastic coatings. Due to the sheath construction, it will not crack at a small bending radius. In patent claim 2, a particularly favorable embodiment is specified.
The invention also includes a method for the production of ropes, as stated in patent claim 3.
Kappa gets a hairy surface after a short period of use. This means that the coat is more resistant to mechanical wear and penetration of foreign elements such as sand and dirt, than known ropes.
Oppfinnelsen vil nedenfor bli beskrevet mer detaljert. The invention will be described in more detail below.

Fig. 7 shows a side view of a used hawse in accordance with the invention, to illustrate the term "fairing". Fig. 1 schematically shows a plant 11 for the production of a rope. The plant, which is known in principle, comprises a number of coils (not shown) with parallel kneaded and braided cord parts 12, which can be 3-fold, 4-fold. 8-braided or 12-braided and which is fed through a liner disc 13 with a hole for each cord part, together to form a rope core 14 at the inlet 15 of a braiding machine 16 with spools 17 of sheath tape 18 which is braided on the core 14 into a tight sheath 19. The rope core 14 and the jacket 19 together make up the finished rope 20. The finished rope 20 is wound up on a drum 21.
The braiding machine 16 has a rotating supported carrier disc 22 which carries a number of rotating bobbin holders 23. The bobbin holders 23 can be driven by gears so that when the braiding machine 16 is rotated, they make a cyclic movement of a bobbin in relation to the neighboring bobbins. The number of coil holders and thus sheath tape 18 can vary from 4 to 32, depending on tape width and rope diameter.
Fig. 2 shows a front view of the braiding machine 16 with the spool holders 23, which shows how the cover tapes 18 are laid on in equal numbers in each direction (left and right twisted). This belongs to known technology and shall not be described in more detail here.
In Fig. 3 and 4, two ropes 20 are shown which are wound with braided core 24 (Fig. 3) and parallel core 25 ("multicore") (Fig. 4), respectively. Fig. 5 shows a side view of a sheath tape 18 which is woven together from six parallel twisted fiber parts 26. Each such twisted fiber part 26 is composed of several filaments 27 and the sheath tape 18 is held together by transversely interwoven threads 28. The threads 28 are very durable thread, e.g. Dyneema (trademark). If the thread 28 were to break, the coat's construction is an obstacle for it to unravel. This is because sheath bands cross sheath bands and interlock with each other. The cover/cover tape can have plastic material extruded onto it. Fig. 6 shows an end view of the sheath band 18 in Fig. 5, which illustrates how the interweaving works in relation to the fiber material.
The cover band 18 can be made of polyester fibre, which is particularly resistant to sunlight. Aramid fiber (nylon) can also be used, such as Kevlar (trademark), which is particularly heat-resistant. A third option is HM polyethylene fibers, such as Dyneema (trademark), which are extremely mechanically strong fibers. The assembly of casing tape in this way can be done in a special machine.
Fig. 7 shows a section of a rope 20 which has a sheath with a so-called "fairing". Some of the sheath bands are provided with cutting of the threads so that protruding threads 29 or floss are formed, which is called "faring" and which helps to stabilize the rope movement when pulling through the water. Fairing is used to prevent vibration in the rope and to reduce the drag constant. The fairing can in particular be made of "Danline" or "Dyneema" (trademarks).
Rope 20 can be impregnated in a known manner or coated with a plastic coating of suitable material.
Fordeler ved bruk av oppfinnelsen Advantages of using the invention
1. The cable can be used on special winches where existing constructions do not have sufficient resistance to mechanical wear. 2. It can be combined with "fairing". It prevents vibration and reduces the drag constant. 3. The tight cover prevents sand/dirt ingress when anchoring where the cable stays on the seabed.
4. Den tillater mindre bøyeradius enn kjente trosser.. 4. It allows a smaller bending radius than known ropes.
5. Due to its resistance to mechanical wear, the jacket can in certain cases replace steel cases.
6. Ropes with such a sheath in some cases have sufficient wear resistance to replace wire.
The tape construction means that the coat has great resistance to mechanical wear and to cuts from sharp objects, especially when using HM polyethylene fibers, such as Dyneema (trademark).
8. Kappa will not open if a ribbon is cut.
Kappa can be braided with different numbers of bands. The minimum number of cover bands is 4.
11. Laying length and laying angle can be adjusted according to the area of use of the line.
