Description
This invention relates to a transducer for acoustic detection and localization of sound-generating defects in machines, in particular electrical partial discharges in high-voltage transformers.
Partial discharges indicate defects and are an undesirable condition in high-voltage insulation systems that can affect material and plant safety. In order to be able to assess the risk, it is important to be able to determine the position of the defect using external measurements.
In prior art, international patent application WO 96/18112 Al has shown a method and device for locating partial discharges in electrical high-voltage devices which are placed in a container filled with an insulating medium. The localization is carried out as a triangulation based on the measurement of differences in arrival time and later processing in a computer. In this solution, three sensors with amplifiers and a recording instrument with a corresponding number of channels are required.
It is also known from the American patent US 5,903,158 a method for monitoring partial discharges in a power transformer by means of electrical measurements. The device determines whether the electrical discharges are inside or outside the device.
From the American patent US 3,728,619 a method and an apparatus for detecting corona discharges inside a container for a power transformer is known. For localization, a manual comparison of signals picked up by two sensors must also be carried out.
Various methods are known to find the position of the defects, and are often based on acoustic measurements. In the publication Lars E. Lundgaard and Walter Hansen: ""Location of discharges in power transformers using external acoustic sensors.", Sixth international symposium on high voltage engineering, New Orleans, LA, USA, August 28-September 1, 1989, the measurement of acoustic waves arising from partial discharges, and the acoustic waves' propagation through a medium.
Andre eksempler på måleteknikker er følgende: Other examples of measurement techniques are the following:
Multiple akustiske sensorer og triangulering. Multiple acoustic sensors and triangulation.
Elektrisk deteksjon av en kilde kombinert med akustiske Electrical detection of a source combined with acoustic
målinger av tidsforløp. measurements of time course.
Flytting av en akustisk sensor til maksimalt signal Moving an acoustic sensor to maximum signal
oppnås. is achieved.
Use of two sensors and an oscilloscope, where one of the sensors is moved until the signals appear simultaneously on the oscilloscope.
The disadvantages of the known solutions are that they are either complex in both use and equipment or, when only one sensor channel is used, that it is difficult to achieve sufficiently good accuracy.
It is thus an aim of this invention to provide acoustic measuring equipment for measuring partial discharges which is easy to use, but which also provides sufficiently accurate position determination.
These purposes are achieved by a transducer as described above and which is characterized as stated in the independent claim 1.
The purpose is also achieved with a method as stated in independent claim 6.
In this way, a measuring device and a method is achieved which is very easy to use, which achieves good accuracy in locating defects, and which can also be made from readily available equipment so that costs are kept down.
The invention will be described below with reference to the attached figures, which illustrate the invention by means of examples.
Figur 1 illustrerer en utførelse av oppfinnelsen. Figure 1 illustrates an embodiment of the invention.
Figur 2A illustrerer posisjonen til to sensorer plassert i Figure 2A illustrates the position of two sensors placed in
forhold til tre støykilder på en plate. compared to three noise sources on a disc.
Figure 2B illustrates in a table the measured signals in for hold to the position on a plate. Figure 3 illustrates the combined signal's peak value in relation to the time difference in arrival time at the sensors. Figure 1 shows a preferred embodiment of the invention which consists of two sensors 1, each of which is placed in connection with a magnet 2 to provide optimal contact with a magnetisable surface. The sensors can be of any available acoustic sensor type with a frequency response that suits the measurements in question. The choice of sensor type will have to be decided from device to device, but normally acoustic emission sensors with a broadband characteristic and sensitivity peak in the 20-200 kHz range will be used.
The sensors 1 and the associated magnets 2 are held at a predetermined mutual distance with a beam 3. For practical purposes, the beam will typically be 30-60 cm long. In some cases, it is conceivable that the distance can be changed between measurements, for example to take account of local space conditions or the like, but essentially the distance during measurement sequences to locate defects is constant.
In the preferred embodiment, each sensor is associated with a preamplifier 4 for amplifying the signal from the sensor, and a filter 5 for removing unwanted frequency components from the signal. The type of filter can vary with the application but will typically include a bandpass filter to separate out certain frequency ranges. In some cases, the filter 5 can be integrated into the preamplifier 4 or looped, since a certain degree of filtering can also be carried out in the sensors themselves. For transformer applications, low pass filters of 50 kHz or no filter would appear to be suitable.
For the implementation of the invention, it is important that the sensors 1, the preamplifiers 4 and the filters 5 are as identical as possible.
The signals from the sensors are then transmitted to a signal multiplier 6 which sends a multiplied signal to a measuring instrument 8. In general, any peak value indicating instrument or oscilloscope can be used provided that the bandwidth is large enough in relation to
sensorenes karakteristikk. For example, the instrument AIA (Acoustic Insulation Analyzer) from Transinor can be used. Figure 2A schematically shows two sensors IA,IB placed in relation to three noise sources 7A,7B,7C, where one of the sources 7B lies in a plane with an equal distance to the two sensors IA,IB.
Figure 2B illustrates how, from the left, the signals from source 7A, to the left of the table, do not reach the sensors IA,IB at the same time. The product of the two signals therefore becomes zero. The same happens with the signal from source 7C on the right.
However, the signal from the central source 7B arrives at the sensors at the same time. The multiplied signal is thus the product of two signals that are not equal to zero, which gives a detectable signal that is sensed by the measuring instrument connected to the multiplying circuit 6.
Figure 3 illustrates how the peak value of the multiplied signal changes with the time difference At between the signals from the two sensors.
In one embodiment of the invention, the transducer can be rotatably suspended, so that the sensor can be placed in one place and turned until the angle where the maximum signal is obtained out of the multiplier 6 and in until the measuring instrument is found. The acoustic source will then lie in a first plane in the middle between the sensors.
The measuring instrument associated with the multiplier can be of any type that can give an indication of the peak value of the multiplied signal so that an operator can move the measuring equipment over a search area until the highest value is obtained. To achieve better localization, the transducer is moved to a new location. The transducer is turned again until the angle where the maximum signal is obtained out of the multiplier 6 and in until the measuring instrument is found. This can be achieved, for example, by storing associated values for the measured signal and the transducer's angle during rotation of the transducer. By analyzing the detected and stored signal values, the angle corresponding to the maximum signal value can be identified. The acoustic source is now located in a second plane and will lie where the first and second planes intersect.
Measurements at additional positions will provide a further improved position determination for the acoustic source.
As mentioned, the filtering that is carried out can be of different types depending on the local conditions, for example by suppressing frequency ranges that contain a lot of noise or by taking into account the sound propagation properties of the materials through which the sounds are to travel.
