For behandling av seismiske data som representerer et fysisk system A, er det tilveiebrakt en fremgangsmåte for behandling av seismiske data som representerer et fysisk system, så som seismiske refleksjonsdata som representerer et område av jorden. Fremgangsmåten danner en forskjell (2) mellom første og andre målte data (1) som representerer systemet i henholdsvis første og andre tilstander, for eksempel ved ulike tider. Forskjellen inverteres (5) i samsvar med en parameterisert modell (3, 4) av det fysiske systemet for å oppnå endringer (6, 7) i parametrene til modellen.
