Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a cone-type spring which simultaneously ensures the application of pressure and the formation of electrical contact.
Independent electrical equipment that is not connected to any external energy source is equipped with its own generators, such as batteries or accumulators. These generators can often be taken out, and it is then necessary to use a device that holds the generator in place and creates the necessary electrical contact. It is thus known to use springs made of an electrically conductive material to ensure both of these functions. The springs intended for such an application are usually leaf springs or conical coil springs. An example of the latter type of electrical contact is described in US patent no. 3,885,848.
When such a spring is to have a large spring force and/or the generator space does not allow an exact placement of the generator, the spring should be of the conical screw type, which makes it possible to achieve a greater difference between compressed and extended state than is possible with a leaf spring.
Conical coil springs are usually produced by winding an electrically conductive wire of constant cross-section on a conical core. The spring force of a wire-shaped spring depends directly on the ratio between its cross-section and its length, as a winding of such a spring will be stiffer the smaller its diameter. In the generator compartment, this spring is attached at its largest winding, while the winding at the other end of the spring, namely its smallest winding, comes into contact with the generator. The spring is mounted in this way to facilitate centering and to make the assembly more solid. The generator is thus only in contact with the smallest winding of the spring, while all other windings are pressed together outside of each other. In certain applications where the generator must emit a large current, this contact surface will be insufficient. Furthermore, conical coil springs can be damaged by foreign objects, especially if these are applied perpendicular to the spring axis.
The object of the present invention is thus to produce a spring of a conical type for making electrical contact and which exhibits an enlarged contact surface opposite the movable body with which the surface is to make contact. This contact surface also makes it possible to reinforce the spring against the penetration of foreign bodies.
This contact surface can advantageously be used to make contact with such generators as batteries or accumulators, but can also be used in general in all cases where an electrical spring contact is to be made.
The conical spring for electrical contact formation according to the invention consists of an electrical conductor wound around an axis, and has as a distinctive feature that at least a part of said conductor, which is delimited in the longitudinal direction by a narrow outer end, has a cross-section which increases with its distance from said narrow outer end.
Furthermore, in this conical spring for electrical contact formation, at least one section of the conductor has a constant cross-section. In a first embodiment of the conical spring for electrical contact formation, the electrical conductor is designed as a strip of uniform thickness. In another embodiment of the conical spring for electrical contact formation, the electrical conductor is designed as a wire.
Furthermore, the cone spring for electrical contact formation comprises a contact member attached to its fixed outer end. Furthermore, in the conical helical spring for electrical contact formation, at least some of the windings which make up the spring are designed so that they partially overlap each other when the spring is in its rest position.
De forskjellige formål og særtrekk ved oppfinnelsesgjenstanden vil nå bli nærmere forklart ved hjelp av et ikke begrensende utførelseseksempel gitt under henvisning til figurene på den vedføyde tegning, i hvilke: Fig. 1 viser skjematisk en fjær av konisk type for dannelse av elektrisk kontakt før den The different purposes and special features of the invention will now be explained in more detail by means of a non-limiting example given with reference to the figures in the attached drawing, in which: Fig. 1 schematically shows a spring of conical type for forming electrical contact before the

1. The spring of conical type for electrical contact formation according to the invention is made from a strip of uniform thickness in electrically conductive material and whose mechanical properties allow appropriate design into a spring. It is attached to a carrier at its fixed end, while its other extreme end will be movable. The spring is shown in a flat, extended condition in fig. 1. It comprises an elongated body A, which forms an electrical conductor which is narrower at its movable end than at its fixed end, where it is extended by a fixed contact member, such as a round disk B. The body A consists of three connected parts of square shape, one side of which, namely the underside, is made up of one and the same straight surface for each of them. The first part 1 begins with a narrow edge at one end of the body A and exhibits a width that increases linearly with the distance from this end. The second part 2 likewise begins with a narrow edge where the first part ends, and at this point has the same width as the first part. The width of the second part also increases linearly up to its common border with the third part, as the width increase per length unit is smaller in this case than for the first batch. The third part 3, which is also called segment, has a constant width which is equal to the largest width of the second part 2.
The various parts, which are clearly demarcated from each other for a clearer presentation, are only schematically described here. In a practical embodiment, the angles shown at the boundary transitions between the different parts are preferably avoided. Rather, the profile of the electrical conductor A is designed so that any uneven transition is avoided, as such an unevenness can form a break indication or a tearing off of a part of the spring from the contact surface against which it acts.
Aksen A som ligger i fjærremsens plan, passerer gjennom midtpunktet av rondellen B og danner en vinkel a med undersiden av de tre partier 1, 2, 3. The axis A, which lies in the plane of the spring strip, passes through the center of the roundel B and forms an angle a with the underside of the three parts 1, 2, 3.
De geometriske dimensjoner av konuskjerner fastlegges slik at de forskjellige ønskede fjæregenskaper kan oppnås, nemlig: The conical spring is thus wound around the axis A, e.g. on a conical core. The geometric dimensions of cone cores are determined so that the various desired spring properties can be achieved, namely:
- antallet vindinger, - the number of turns,
- omfang (lengde, diameter) - extent (length, diameter)
- eventuell delvis parvis overlapping av nabovindinger i fjærens hviletilstand. - possible partial overlapping of neighboring windings in pairs in the spring's resting state.
3. The disc B is then folded so that it stands perpendicular to said axis A. The thus designed spring is shown seen from above in fig. 2, as well as shown in section at the beginning of a compression in fig. 3.
As the first part 1 of this spring has the smallest ratio between cross-section and length, and thus is the weakest section, when the spring is compressed, the various windings that make up said section will in turn come into contact with a contact surface 5, e.g. . on a generator, and which stands perpendicular to the axis and is opposite the washer B which forms the attachment for the spring. The part 2 will then begin to deform and eventually exert an increased pressure in contact with the contact surface 5. In the final phase of the compression, the part 3 with a constant cross-section will then finally produce the majority of the compressive force against said contact surface.
The design example described and shown in the figures can be made the subject of numerous design variants. The spring body A, which is here divided into three parts with a fixed ratio between length and cross-section, can thus assume a completely different shape. The reason is that a winding is deformed more easily when the ratio between its cross-section and diameter is low. For a spring with a given scope and which must exert a given pressure, it will thus be possible to choose the number of windings that must be effectively in contact with the contact surface, thereby determining the relationship that must exist between the width of a cross-section of the spring body and the location of this cross-section along the extent of the body.
The fixed contact member whose function is to allow connection of the spring with an external electrical connection is here constituted by a ring B. However, this does not constitute a limitation of the scope of the invention, as a member of any other appropriate form can be utilized to fulfill this function.
In one embodiment, the spring body A is not formed from a flat strip, but from a thread. This thread then comprises a conically tapering part which exhibits the same properties as the first and second parts 1, 2 in the above-mentioned embodiment, based on a cross-section which decreases regularly from one to the other extreme of these parts. This thread can further comprise a cylindrical part with a constant cross-section corresponding to the third part 3 of said spring formed from a flat strip.
The spring of conical type according to the invention thus makes it possible to improve the electrical contact with the contact surface by, on the one hand, increasing the contact surface and, on the other hand, allowing each winding to contribute to the contact pressure.
Furthermore, it is possible to allow the spring windings to partially overlap each other in the spring's rest state, as indicated in fig. 3. In this case, the spring will be less vulnerable to foreign objects.
The spring of conical type has been given this designation, although according to the invention it is not absolutely necessary that the conductive spring body is wound on a cone stem. The shape of the winding can actually be quite different, provided that two different cross-sections of the conductor do not in any case give orthogonal projections that have a section in common, on the contact surface 5.
