Abstract

Compressed, self-packed hydraulic binder material, esp. cement, consists of granules of the binder pressed together, each granule being coated with a layer of a substance which retards the hydraulic binding of the binder particles. A pref. retarder is a calcium sulphate deriv., esp. calcium dihydrate. The retarder is pref. incorporated into the cement in the form of an aq. soln., added in an amt. of 1-5 (esp. 2-4) wt. % on the binder, to cause slight pre-hydration of the binder. The particles are then pressed into a suitable shape for transport, eg, into briquettes.
