Abstract

The arrangement is intended for determining local surface (1) absorption values of an object. It comprises a source (3) of penetrating radiation, radiation directors (10) to irradiate the surface in different directions, a range of detectors (9) to convert the radiation emerging from the object into analogue signals, and an analogue/digital converter (17), and a memory (19) for the digital values. The converter (17) is connected in series with a dynamic signal adaptor (15) which brings the measured signals within a certain amplitude range. The adaptor comprises a variable-gain amplifier and a comparator comparing each measured signal with a reference, the comparator output determining the gain. The adaptor also comprises a sampling circuit with a memory in series with the amplifier, the output of this circuit being fed to the converter. The comparator output and the digital value of the adapted stored signal is stored in the memory.
