Abstract

The mud transport system uses a pump and a pressure pipe. The mud is delivered under gravity into the pressure chamber (16) of the pump, and in which its ram piston (17) works. Both the inlet (14, 15) and the outlet (20, 21) valves of the pump are positively actuated. A hopper (10) can be provided to accommodate the mud to be pumped, and underneath it are one or more horizontal ram cylinders in which pistons work. An intermittently actuated stop valve is mounted between hopper and cylinder, and there can be a similar one at the pump outlet. The valves themselves can comprises sliding plates with hard cutting edges.
