Abstract

The machine discharges and compresses refuse into containers, having a frame with one or more positions (3) at its base for these containers (4). Above these positions are one or more openings through which the material is delivered, and at the top is a horizontal supporting frame for a travelling crab, movable into positions above these accommodating the containers, and equipped with a compression mechanism movable up and down by means of a lazy tongs assembly (28-37), so as to act against the material in the container. A travel motor (24) on the crab can propel it along the frame by means of a rack-and-pinion mechanism (25, 13), being controlled by a limit switch actuated by a stop fixed to the frame. This halts the crab above the container and starts up the compression mechanism.
