Abstract

The tobacco leaf stretching system consists in placing the leaf on a support, elastic in all directions and generally flat. Pressure is applied to the leaf on the side away from the support, and tension is applied in the plane of the support all round the leaf, stretching the leaf by friction against the additionally stretched support. Pressure can be generated by applying a vaccum to the support on the side away from the leaf, or a thruster can be moved against it from the opposite side, typically in the form of a sheet of material impermeable to air. Tension can also be applied to the leaf itself.
