Abstract

Global objects the bodies of which are symmetrical around an axis of rotation, are aligned by means of moving details having a space between them. The object to be aligned may be delivered between two conveyor belts facing each other and forming a path for the object. These act on the surface of the workpieces setting tehm in motion so that the axis on which they rotate symmetrically lies transversely to the direction in which they are to be transported. The transporting organs may be two endless belts, or an endless belt and a pair of rollers. Or the handling conveyor may consists of two pairs of rollers. At least one of the rollers may have the form of a double cone with the smaller dias. of the cones facing each other. Onions may be handled with this equipment. After the onion has been aligned, the head and tail projecting at each side are cut off and the skin is notched. The onion is then maintained in rotation by the conveyor long enough for the skin to be rubbed off. Known machines for this purpose have three rollers forming an enclosed aligning zone, from which the onion cannot be released easily. This machine solves this difficulty and fits into a line allowing apples, onions etc. to undergo further treatment. One of the conveyors is narrow enough to allow the head and tial of the onion to project at the sides, so that knives moving along the conveyor can cut them off.
