Abstract

A multiway tap or shut-off stop, has a housing with a cylindrical bore for the valve gate, and can be used for fluids or gases. It has a feed inlet and at least one outlet together with a cylindrical valve gate which can be turned, and is sealed against the outside and the gate is retained axially by a suitable gland. In a radial bore of the gate there is a radial plunger which closes the or either outlet. The plunger is loaded by the feed pressure on both end faces and together with the gate has play in its bore. The medium fed in passes along the outside of the gate to the outlet(s). The radical plunger has a rubber seal curved to the contour of the cylindrical bore so as to close the outlet and the plunger is formed by two details made of PTFE which fit one inside the other holding the rubber seal between them. Overcomes the difficulty of sealing the shut-off stops.
