Abstract

The attachment for the drive has a pair of planar cutting knives which have a specific number of cutting teeth for shearing material e.g. grass. The blades move back and forwards across each other repetitively. The adjacent and jointly operating cutting edges have their contact cutting point between the interacting edges of each pair of cutting edges. The blades move with a uniform velocity during each cutting stroke. The drive for the blades which both oscillate from side to side relative to the cutter housing, is by a gear driven eccentric which provides a long open period for the grass to enter the gap between and then a rapid cutting action. The motor may be powered from batteries in the handle.
