Abstract

The gastight screw pipe union is partic. for the drilling pipes of deep wells, having an inner member with a taper thread ending in a sealing neck, screwing into an outer one, also with a taper thread ending in a cylindrical recess accommodating the neck so as to form a seal. The neck (3) of the inner member has a convex aspherical radius at the head end, and also a conical face (4) whose angle (a) when the inner member is not screwed home is 5-20% greater than that of (B) the mating cone face (8) in the cylindrical recess (7) of the outer member (5). The actual dia. of the neck in any cross-section is less than the nominal dia. in the same cross-section of the cylindrical recess.
