Abstract

Aroma materials comprise a mixt. of cpds. of formula (I) (in which X = H or CH3; and A = CHO and B = H or vice versa). The cpds. have a sharp pithy aroma and are useful as aromatising cpds. Prepn. is by reacting isopropyl benzene or tert. butyl benzenes with esters of allyl alcohol by a Friedal-Crafts reaction, followed by hydroformylation of the reaction prod. consisting of tert. butylallyl benzenes or isopropylallyl-benzenes with CO + H2 at 90-150 degrees C and 200-300 bars in the presence of (cpd) catalysts.
