Abstract

The level of a cultivation liquid in a growing vessel is raised and lowered so as to expose a controlled amount of plant root to the air in a moist condition during a regulated period of time, while the liquid is caused to flow continuously at the desired, and adjustable, speed in relation to a root portion placed in it. Air is introduced into the liquid to increase the concentration of oxygen in solution in it. The fluid level in the vessel can be continuously raised and lowered, or intermittently, and it can be kept at a controlled temperature which is best suited to plant growth. The complete equipment can comprise a planting bed filled with supporting material for the plant and contained in a vessel, a draw-off pipe being included with means for regulating liquid level. A separate tank accommodates a set quantity of liquid and also the liquid drawn off. A timing device regulates delivery of the liquid to the planting bed, and air is fed to the liquid while this is taking place.
