Abstract

A mixer, esp. For floodstuffs such as pulp, mash, yoghourt as an approximately vertical esp. inclined, mixer shaft with generally radial blades. The shaft is eccentric to the vessel and describes a closed cyclical path. The reactor vessel is sealed with a flexible seal detachably fixed to both the vessel wall and the mixer shaft. In one preferred arrangement the inclined shaft intersects the vessel axis at the seal and has its top end guided along a planetary paty by a planet wheel rolling around a sun wheel. The seal may be either a rubber or plastic disc or a bel lows. In another prefd. arrangement, where the seal is pref a flexible disc, the upper end of the shaft is mounted in a rotating arm at a fixed radius. In yet another arrangement, the shaft is guided by a path which tilts about a horizontal axis. In all the arrangements, the shaft is held so that it cannot rotate about its own axis, but the blades may optionally themselves rotate idly about a bearing at the lower end of the shaft. An absolute seal, esp. against the ingress of bacteria, is obtained, since there is no stuffing-box.
