Abstract

The surplus water is removed from a concrete component poured in a mould open at the top by subjecting the component to the pressure of a ram with a water discharge system. This has a smooth water-permeable surface which is brought into contact with the concrete, poured to above the mould edge, while a seal is fitted between the mould edge and the ram. Ram, component and mould are then held in a pressure chamber for a period at a pressure of at least 1 atmosphere, the water being forced out through the ram and the discharge system. The pressure in the chamber can be exerted for between 3/4 and 1 minute per cm. thickness of component.
