Abstract
sulphone is prepd. by (1) holding a reaction mixt. which contains 4-chlorobenzenesulphonic acid (formed in situ) and chlorobenzene, at a temp. between 220 degrees C and 260 degrees C, (235-255 degrees C) esp. 242-248 degrees C and at a super atmospheric pressure between 30 and 1100 kN/m2, (2) continuously removing formed water as steam, (3) condensing and separating the steam and chlorobenzene vapour, and (4) recycling the chlorobenzene to the reaction mixt.
