Abstract

Tank for storage at atmospheric press. of liqs. boiling at los temps. e.g. liquefied natural gas, has a thin-walled inner shell resistant to contact with the cold liq. surrounded by and spaced from an outer shell of greater thickness which accepts the wt. of the tank contents, the interspace being filled with a porous insulating material and a layer of vapour-impermeable insulant placed directly against the inner shell, while the liq. storage space is connected to the porous insulating mass by limited passages extending through the inner shell and vapour-impermeable insulating layer.
