Abstract

Cpds. of general formula (I): (where Het = a 6-membered ring with 1-3 heteroatoms or a 5-membered ring with 1-4 hetero-atoms which may be N, -S or -O; R1 = H, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, halogen or haloalkyl; R2 = H, alkyl halogen, amino, alkylamino, dialkylamino, hydroxy or alkoxy) have anti-inflammatory activity and may be used for the prevention & inhibition of oedema and granuloma tissue. Most preferred ring-structures are oxazole, thiazolyl and pyrrol. Preparation e.g. by carboxylation of suitable starting materials such as 2-(m-hydroxyphenyl)-oxazole, 3-(2-thiazolyl)-phenol etc. in the presence of K2CO3 with CO2 at preferably 175 degrees C and 800 psi.
