Description
Box for transportation of flowers
The invention relates to a box for transportation of flowers, in particular roses, and equipped with a bottom part and a cover part, wherein the cover part snugly fits over the bottom part, and wherein the bottom part and the cover part are separable and can be reunited. The invention is particularly embodied in the bottom part of the box.
WO2020/197390 discloses such a box and bottom part.
Although the box of this publication is generally suited for its purpose, in certain embodiments the problem may occur that water that is dragged along into the box when loading the box with the flowers can reach the heads of the flowers. When that happens the flowers go to waste.
It is an object of the invention to avoid that the heads of the flowers will get in touch with water inside of the box.
Accordingly a box is proposed with the features of one or more of the appended claims.
Essentially in the box of the invention, the bottom part is provided with dewatering features so as to counteract that humidity that moves over the bottom part in a longitudinal direction of the box reaches the sides that delimit the longitudinal direction of the box. It is at those sides that delimit the longitudinal direction of the box, where the heads of the flowers are located while they are transported with the box.
Preferably the dewatering {features comprise upstanding ridges on the bottom part having a direction transverse to the longitudinal direction of the box. This counteracts that the water that may move over the bottom part can reach the heads of the flowers.
Desirably the upstanding ridges leave an open area between the ridges and a side wall or walls of the box so as to enable passing of water. In this manner the water can be guided in a controlled way to an exit point as will be discussed hereinafter.
It is further preferable that the dewatering features comprise depressions in the bottom part, which depressions form a channel in a direction transverse to the longitudinal direction of the box. Such channels form an effective barrier
- 2 = for the water that otherwise may progress over the bottom part in the direction of the heads of the flowers.
Most preferably at least near the sidewalls of the box that are parallel to the longitudinal direction of the box, the bottom part is provided with one or more apertures to let water escape from the box to the outside. It is also possible that the sidewalls of the box that are parallel to the longitudinal direction of the box are provided with one or more apertures to let water escape from the box to the outside.
In some embodiments it is further helpful that near the sidewalls of the box at the sides that delimit the longitudinal direction of the box, the bottom part is provided with one or more apertures to let water escape from the box to the outside.
It is also possible that the sidewalls of the box at the sides that delimit the longitudinal direction of the box are provided with one or more apertures to let water escape from the box to the outside.
To effectively promote the dewatering of the box it is desirable that the bottom part is provided with different altitudes in the longitudinal direction of the box, wherein the altitude of a middle part of the bottom part is higher than the altitude of the bottom part near the sides that delimit the longitudinal direction of the box so as to support movement of water over the bottom part in a longitudinal direction of the box and to promote a subsequent dewatering of the box.
The invention will hereinafter be further elucidated with reference to a drawing of a non-limiting exemplary embodiment of the box and bottom part in accordance with the invention.
In the drawing, it is shown in — figure 1: a box according to the prior art in an exploded view; and - figures 2 and 3: the bottom part of the box of the invention in top view and isometric view respectively.
Whenever in the figures the same reference numerals are applied, these numerals refer to the same parts.
Figure 1 provides an exploded view at the box 1 according to the prior art which is equipped with a bottom part 2 and a cover part 3. The bottom part 2 and the cover part 3 are separable so as to enable placement of the flowers or removal
- 3 = of the flowers, and can be reunited for closing of the box 1.
At least one of the bottom part 2 and the cover part 3, but preferably both the bottom part 2 and the cover part 3 comprise a series of mutually different building elements 4-9 that are manufactured from recyclable material.
Figure 1 shows that the bottom part 2 comprises a gas tight and water resistant plate 4, and that the cover part 3 comprises a gas tight and water resistant plate 5. These plates 4, 5 are preferably embodied as a plastic laminate, and more preferably comprise for instance three polypropylene foils connected by thermal lamination, completely without adhesives. A product that answers to this construction is commercially available on the market and known under the registered trademark con-pearl.
Preferably each plate 4, 5 is at the side that is intended to be on the outward side of the box 1 provided with a frictional layer to avoid sliding of stacked boxes.
Figure 1 further shows that at least one of the bottom part 2 and the cover part 3 comprises end pieces 6, 8 that delimit the longitudinal direction of the box 1. The end pieces 6, 8 are preferably embodied in a plastic material, preferably injection moulded. The end pieces 6 of the cover part 3 are preferably provided with an inmould label (not shown but clear to the skilled person), carrying a OR-code and/or a barcode. This enables that providing packing lists and documents for the customs authorities can be automated. Tracking and tracing thus becomes easy. A detailed disclosure of the box provides wo2020/197390, the content of which is deemed inserted here.
With reference to figures 2 and 3, the box 1 and in particular the bottom part 2 of the invention will now be discussed.
Except for particular details pertaining to the bottom part 2, the box 1 of the invention is generally provided with the above discussed features that are discussed with reference to the prior art box shown in figure 1.
Figures 2 and 3 show the bottom part 2 of the invention, wherein figure 3 depicts that the bottom part 2 is provided with different altitudes in the longitudinal direction of the box, which is indicated with the arrow A. Arrows B and C indicate the locations where, when the box 1 is completed, the end pieces 6,
8 are located that delimit the longitudinal direction of the box 1.
Figure 3 clearly shows that the altitude of a middle part
D of the bottom part 2 is higher than the altitude of the bottom part 2 near the sides B, C that delimit the longitudinal direction of the box 1. This supports movement of water that has reached the bottom part 2 over this bottom part 2 in the longitudinal direction of the box 1 and promotes a subsequent dewatering of the box 1 as will be explained hereinafter with reference to figure 2.
Figure 2 shows several further dewatering features which are intended to counteract that humidity that moves over the bottom part 2 in a longitudinal direction of the box 1 reaches the sides 6, 8 that delimit the longitudinal direction of the box.
As one of those dewatering features, figure 2 shows that the bottom part 2 is provided with upstanding ridges 10 having a direction transverse to the longitudinal direction A of the box 1. It is further shown that the upstanding ridges 10 leave an open area 11 between the ridges 10 and a side wall or walls 27, 27! of the box 1 so as to enable passing of water.
Figure 2 further shows that the dewatering features comprise depressions 12 in the bottom part 2, which depressions form a channel in a direction transverse to the longitudinal direction A of the box 1.
Preferably at least near the sidewalls 27, 2’ of the box 1 that are parallel to the longitudinal direction A of the box 1, the bottom part 2 is provided with one or more apertures 13 to let water escape from the box 1 to the outside. Alternatively or in addition it is also feasible that the sidewalls 27, 277 of the box 1 that are parallel to the longitudinal direction A of the box 1 are provided with one or more apertures 13 to let water escape from the box 1 to the outside.
Advantageously also near the sidewalls 6, 8 of the box 1 at the sides that delimit the longitudinal direction A of the box 1, the bottom part 2 is provided with one or more apertures 14 to let water escape from the box 1 to the outside.
Alternatively or in addition it is also feasible that the sidewalls 6, 8 of the box 1 at the sides that delimit the
— 5 = longitudinal direction A of the box 1 are provided with one or more apertures 14 to let water escape from the box 1 to the outside.
Although the invention has been discussed in the foregoing with reference to an exemplary embodiment of the box of the invention, the invention is not restricted to this particular embodiment which can be varied in many ways without departing from the invention. The discussed exemplary embodiment shall therefore not be used to construe the appended claims strictly in accordance therewith. On the contrary the embodiment is merely intended to explain the wording of the appended claims without intent to limit the claims to this exemplary embodiment.
The scope of protection of the invention shall therefore be construed in accordance with the appended claims only, wherein a possible ambiguity in the wording of the claims shall be resolved using this exemplary embodiment.
