Abstract
In a method for improving reading concentration in patients with visual impairment, it is first sought out which eye of the patient 21 is the dominant eye. Then, while the patient is looking at a text 23 on a computer screen or paper with both eyes, different color filters 25 for the non-dominant eye are presented and the preferred color filter that the patient indicates is best read for the non-dominant eye determined. Thereafter, different color filters are provided for the dominant eye, while said preferred color filter is held for the non-dominant eye, and the preferred color filter for the dominant eye is determined therefrom. Finally, for both eyes, different color filters with wavelengths equal to or near those of the most effective color filters are provided, and the optimum color filters are determined therefrom for reducing the negative effects of the disorders.
Description
The invention relates to a lens system for improving reading concentration thereby improving reading comprehension and for eliminating or reducing reading (related) complaints in patients suffering from one or more of the following conditions: ADD (attention deficit disorder), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, reading-related headache or migraine, headache or migraine that occurs in brightly lit spaces. The lens system comprises a pair of lenses, one for each eye of the patient, at least one of which comprises a colored portion forming a color filter. ADD, ADHD, headache is often caused by faltering light stimulus processing. Brightly lit rooms and computers are more common nowadays than about 15-20 years ago. Perhaps a (partial) explanation is the fact that children, but also adults, nowadays have to deal with much more bright light sources. 20 years ago, widescreen TV was not watched in the morning, games were played on game computers or smartphones, and spaces were not nearly as brightly lit as they are today (with LED light), and most schools still had crayons instead of IWBs and beamers. Perhaps many people are simply not built to handle so many light stimuli. This is called visual dysfunction (visual stress). The bottom line is that the light stimulus processing from eyes to brain is not going well. These electrical signals then stimulate, among other things, the optic nerves. People often complain about a full head, in the head, (reading) headache, dancing letters and a concentration bow of often just a few words or rules. With the special filters, it is possible to measure whether there is visual dysfunction and whether this can also be used to address the complaints.
A lens system according to the preamble of claim 1 is known from GB2266786A. This known lens system is for the treatment of dyslexia and comprises a pair of lenses to improve the reading speed and to reduce the number of reading errors. An uncoloured lens is used in combination with one eye of the patient, and the other lens has a colored portion and is used in association with the other eye of the patient. When the patient looks at a target surface, usually white, through the lens system, the image interpreted by the patient's brain changes from an original color corresponding to the color of the colored lens to the color of the target surface, and after this treatment is enable the patient to read without the visual disturbance associated with dyslexia. The pair of lenses may be for glasses or contact lenses, or may be an additional attachment for glasses.
It is an object of the invention to provide a lens system of the type described in the preamble for improving the reading concentration thereby improving reading comprehension and for eliminating or reducing reading (related) complaints in patients who suffer from one or more of the following conditions: ADD (attention deficit disorder), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), reading-related headache or migraine, headache or migraine that occurs in brightly lit rooms. For this purpose, the lens system according to the invention is characterized in that the other lens of the pair of lenses also comprises a colored part which forms a further color filter. It has been found that with a lens system in which both lenses contain a color filter, the above-mentioned disorders can be reduced.
Preferably, the lenses preferably only form color filters and have no other effect on the light passing through. The lenses are, for example, not polarized or otherwise treated.
It is noted that a method for manufacturing colored lenses is known from EP 2 506 064 A. However, these lenses are suitable for color blindness and dyslexia and not for the disappearance or reduction of read (related) complaints.
Furthermore, the color filters of the two lenses of the pair of lenses are preferably colored differently. Many disorders are caused by the fact that both eyes do not send the signals to the brain synchronously. By applying different color filters, this can be corrected. The colored portion of each lens preferably extends over the entire lens.
The pair of lenses may form a pair of contact lenses or a pair of spectacle glasses.
The invention also relates to a method for assembling a pair of lenses for a patient who has difficulties with concentration during reading, whereby reading comprehension becomes difficult in conditions such as. ADD (attention deficit disorder), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), reading-related headache or migraine, headache or migraine that occurs in brightly lit areas, such that when using this pair of lenses the negative effects of these disorders are reduced, including: providing of a set of lenses provided with different color filters, figuring out which patient's eye is the dominant eye, determining the most effective lens for the non-dominant eye by having different lenses of said set of lenses one by one for the non-dominant eye hold while the patient looks at a reference object with both eyes, preferably a text on a computer screen or paper, the most effective lens being that lens for the non-dominant eye that the patient indicates is best readable and focused, Determine the most effective lens for the dominant eye through different named lenses The set of lenses to be held one by one in front of the dominant eye while the patient looks at a reference object with both eyes and the previously determined most effective lens is held in front of the non-dominant eye, the most effective lens being that lens for the dominant eye of which the patient indicates that it is thus best to read and concentrate, and to manufacture a spectacle lens for each eye of the patient provided with the most effective or optimum color filter found.
These glasses can then be placed in a frame and the glasses provided in this way can be used by the patient when needed, for example when reading.
An embodiment of the method according to the invention is characterized in that the set of lenses provided comprises lenses provided with color filters having a color with a wavelength from the following groups: 405-435 nm, 435-495 nm, 495-565 nm, 565-590 nm, 590-625 nm and 625-780 nm, with more than one lens present in each group.
A further embodiment of the method according to the invention is characterized in that subsequently for both eyes simultaneously different lenses provided with color filters with wavelengths equal to or near those of the most effective color filters are held, and therefrom provided the lenses with the optimum color filters of which the The patient indicates that this is the best way to read and concentrate, to determine.

In this embodiment, the lens system 1 is designed as a set of contact lenses 3 and 5. Both lenses are fully inspected and form color filters. The color filters of the two lenses of the pair of lenses are herein preferably colored differently. The color filters of the two lenses each have a color with a wavelength from one of the groups listed in the table below:
Figure 2 shows a second embodiment of the lens system according to the invention. In this embodiment, the lens system 11 is designed as a set of spectacle glasses 13 and 15. hi Figure 3 shows a step in the method for treating a patient 21 in which a pair of lenses is held up. First, the eye of the patient is the dominant eye in a known way. Then, while the patient looks at a text 23 on a computer screen or paper with both eyes, different color filters 25 are presented one after the other for the non-dominant eye. This is done, for example, by a specialist 27 who places a color filter in a frame 29 worn by the patient. The color filter for which the patient indicates that it is best to read and concentrate with it is the preferred color filter for the non-dominant eye.
Subsequently, different color filters are again provided for the dominant eye, while the said preferred color filter is held for the non-dominant eye. The color filter for which the patient indicates that it is best to read and concentrate is the preferred color filter for the dominant eye.
Finally, different color filters are presented simultaneously for both eyes. These color filters are preferably from the same groups as the preferred color filters and their wavelengths preferably do not differ much from those of the preferred color filters. The color filters for which the patient indicates that it is best to read and concentrate with them, now form the optimum color filters for reducing the negative effects of the patient's steam (s).
Although in the foregoing the invention has been elucidated with reference to the drawings, it should be noted that the invention is by no means limited to the embodiments shown in the drawings. The invention also extends to all embodiments deviating from the embodiments shown in the drawings within the scope defined by the claims.
