Description
Horse shoe padlock for bicycle
The present invention relates to a bicycle lock and more particularly, to a horse shoe padlock of the type defined in the preamble of claim 1. Such a horse shoe padlock is known, e.g. from EP 1 834 864 A1.
5 A regular horse shoe padlock for bicycle, as shown in Fig. 1, generally comprises a top casing 10 and a bottom casing 11 that are fastened together and have a respective rear accommodation chamber 12 at the rear side, a shackle 13 mounted in between the top casing 10 and the bottom casing 10 11 and movable between a close position and an open position, and a lock cylinder holder 14 mounted in the rear accommodation chambers 12 of the top casing 10 and the bottom casing 11 to hold a lock cylinder 15 that is operable with a predetermined key to lock the shackle 13 in the close 15 position. The lock cylinder holder 14 may be molded from plastics or made of zinc aluminum alloy. An evil person may use a screwdriver or pry to damage the rear accommodation chamber 12 of the top casing 10 and to further destruct the lock cylinder holder 14. Therefore, this design of horse 20 shoe padlock is not safe in use.
The above-identified document EP 1 834 864 A1 discloses a horse shoe padlock in which reinforcement for the lock cylinder holder consists of three parts, a front armour, a rear armour and a top armour. This leads to a 25 relatively complex structure. This armour is rectangular and is restricted to a chamber accommodating the lock cylinder holder.
Further horse shoe padlocks including reinforcemenare disclosed in the prior art documents 30 EP 0 443 217 A1, DE 33 08 997 Al, GB 1 555 383 A and NL 80 01 496 A.
2
The present invention has been accomplished under the circumstances in view. It is one object of the present invention to provide a horse shoe padlock, which has means to reinforce the structural strength and to protect the lock 5 cylinder holder against damage by an evil person by an external tool.
To achieve this and other objects of the present invention, the horse shoe padlock is characterized in that the reinforcing steel shield includes a top wall extending 10 substantially parallel to the top and bottom casings, two side walls and a rear wall at least partly enclosing said lock cylinder holder, wherein the top wall and the side walls have protrusions extending at least partially into the legs of said top casing and said bottom casing, and wherein 15 the reinforcing steel shield further includes a front wall at least partially enclosing said shackle and an interior wall between said lock cylinder holder and said shackle.
In this way the lock cylinder holder that holds a lock cylinder in the rear side of the top and bottom casings is 20 protected against damage by an evil person by a pry or the like and the structural strength of the horse shoe padlock is reinforced.
Fig. 1 is an exploded view of a horse shoe padlock according to the prior art.
25 Fig. 2 is an exploded view of a horse shoe padlock according to the present invention.
Fig. 3 is a sectional assembly view of the horse shoe padlock according to the present invention.
Referring to Figs. 2 and 3, a horse shoe padlock 30 for bicycle in accordance with the present invention, is shown comprising a top casing 10 and a bottom casing 11 that are fastened together and have a respective rear accommodation chamber 12 at the rear side, a shackle 13 3 mounted in between the top casing 10 and the bottom casing 11 and movable between a close position and an open position, a lock cylinder holder 14 mounted in the rear accommodation chambers 12 of the top casing 10 and the 5 bottom casing 11 to hold a lock cylinder 15 that is operable with a predetermined key (not shown) to lock the shackle 13 in the close position, and a reinforcing shield 20 capped on the rear sides of the top casing 10 and the bottom casing 11 to shield the rear accommodation chambers 12 and to 10 reinforce the structural strength of the rear accommodation chambers 12. The reinforcing shield 20 is made of a steel plate capable of protecting the lock cylinder holder 14 against damage by an evil person by a pry or the like.
Although a particular embodiment of the invention 15 has been described in detail for purposes of illustration, various modifications and enhancements may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. Accordingly, the invention is not to be limited except as by the appended claims.
