Description
DRIJFRIEM VOOR EEN CONTINU VARIABELE TRANSMISSIE EN DWARS-ELEMENT DAARVOORDRIVE BELT FOR A CONTINUOUS VARIABLE TRANSMISSION AND CROSS-ELEMENT THEREFOR
The present invention relates to a drive belt for a continuously variable transmission with two pulleys, each composed of two pulley discs, with an at least partly conical contact surface for enclosing the drive belt in pairs. The known drive belt comprises two tension elements closed in themselves as well as a number of transverse elements arranged movably over the circumference of said tension elements. To that end, the transverse elements comprise a base part and a head part between which two recesses are defined, in which a pulling element, at least partially, is each received. In the axial direction, the two recesses of a transverse element are separated from each other by a central connecting piece of the transverse element, which connects said base and head parts thereof. At the location of the two recesses, the base part in each case forms a bearing surface for the tension element received in the respective recess, which bearing surfaces are bounded in a first axial direction by the connecting piece of the transverse element and in a second, opposite, axial direction by a respective bulge in radial direction or ridge of the base part. The transverse element is provided on either side of the base part with pulley sheave contact surfaces which diverge radially outwardly from each other, which form the axial ends of the base part and which are intended for frictional contact with the pulley sheaves. The said protuberances, at least the respective side surfaces thereof, may or may not form part of the pulley sheave contact surfaces.
Such a drive belt and such a transverse element are generally known and are described, for example, in U.S. Pat. No. 4,968,288. Although the known drive belt could function, according to the applicant the load capacity thereof is not optimal and can be improved by applying the measure according to the characteristic of the present claim 1 in the design of the drive belt.
In the known drive belt design, the head part of the known transverse element only extends to a limited extent in the axial direction over a respective bearing surface and thus over a respective tension element. In the figure 4a of US-4,968,288, the axial overlap between the head part and the bearing surface is, for example, around 30% of the total dimension of the latter, while in the exemplary embodiment in figure 4d that overlap is even less. Although as a result of this, in the assembly of the drive belt, the tension elements can be pushed relatively easily into the recesses of the transverse elements, according to the applicant, these are thereby loaded in an unfavorable manner and to an unnecessarily high degree during operation of the drive belt. More particularly, the applicant has found that situations may occur during operation in which a tension element comes into contact with the head part of (a part of the total number of) the transverse elements, for example due to a rotation relative to the longitudinal axis of the drive belt of a transverse element or at least a series of adjacent transverse elements. An axial end of the head part will thereby act on the tension element, the (mass / force-10) center thereof being located in an axial direction ring beyond that end. As a result, there is a risk that the tension element kinks around that end of the head part, at least additional and undesired stresses occur in the tension element as a result of that contact.
The said tendency to buckle and / or the associated stresses are considerably reduced if the axial end of the head part of the transverse element engages it axially beyond the center of the tension element, ie if the head part extends more axially. then 50% of a dimension in that direction or width of the bearing surface extends over it. All this under the assumption that a dimension in axial direction or width of the tension element is similar to the said width of the bearing surface, which in theory will be preferable for the maximum strength or load-bearing capacity of that tension element.
In practice, however, the tensile element will generally have to be slightly narrower than the bearing surface and preferably have a width from 85 to 96% of the width of the bearing surface in order to mutually clamp the transverse elements and the tensile elements during operation. avoid. In this case, the aforementioned axial dimension of the head part should be chosen correspondingly larger. For example, if the width of the tension element is approximately 90% of the width of the bearing surface, the head part extends in the axial direction preferably over more than 50 + 0.5 * (100-90)%, i.e. 55% of the width of support.
For the purpose of assembling the drive belt 1, the head part will normally have to extend over less than 100% of the width of the bearing surface. In a practical, generally applicable and thus advantageous elaboration of the present invention, there is an overlap between the head part and the bearing surface of 70 to 80% in the axial direction.
The radial dimension or height of the protuberances of the base part relative to the bearing surface is also a defining design parameter. A low protrusion facilitates on the one hand the assembly of the drive belt, but on the other hand can fall short in the intended confinement in axial direction of the tension element. According to the present invention, the height of the protuberances must therefore be at least half a radial dimension or thickness of the tension element and at most equal to a distance between the base part and the head part of the transverse element measured near an axial end of 10 the head part above the bearing surface. In a preferred embodiment of the transverse element according to the invention, the height of the protrusion corresponds to the thickness of the tension element. More specifically, the height H of the bulge must satisfy the equation:
Finally, a play in the radial direction with which the tension element is received in the recess of the transverse element also has an effect on the functioning, or the load-bearing capacity and / or service life of the drive belt. A large clearance facilitates on the one hand the assembly of the drive belt, but on the other hand allows a large rotation of the transverse elements relative to the tension element and thus reinforces the adverse effect thereof, which the present invention is intended to reduce. According to the present invention, the said distance S between the base part and the head part of the transverse element must be less than 200%, but at least 105% of the thickness D of the tension element.
The invention will now be further elucidated on the basis of the following description of the drive belt and the transverse element according to the invention with reference to the drawing, in which: figure 1 represents a continuously variable transmission with a drive belt, shown schematically and partly in section; Figure 2 is a section in the longitudinal or circumferential direction of the known drive belt, with a front view of a transverse element thereof therein; Figure 3 represents an isometric view of a transverse element according to the invention; Figure 4 represents a cross-section of the transverse element according to the invention seen in the longitudinal or circumferential direction of the drive belt; and in which figure 5 shows a detail of the cross-section of the transverse element according to the invention shown in figure 4.
Figure 1 schematically shows a continuously variable transmission, such as for use in a motor vehicle.
The continuously variable transmission comprises two pulleys 5 and 6 arranged on separate pulley shafts 7 and 8. An infinite, self-closed drive belt 1 is arranged around the pulleys 5 and 6 and serves to transfer torque between the pulley shafts 7 and 8. The pulleys 5 and 6 are each provided with two conical pulley discs, which together form a tapered receiving groove in which the drive belt 1 is received. The transmission ratio of the continuously variable transmission is determined by the ratio of the running rays of the drive belt 1 in the receiving grooves of the respective pulleys 5 and 6. The running rays can be varied by the pulley sheaves of the pulleys towards each other, 20 respectively away from each other to move with the aid of displacement means not shown for the sake of simplicity. For this purpose, at least one of the pulley sheaves is axially movable. For transmitting a torque between the pulley shafts 7 and 8, the drive belt 1 is clamped between the pulley sheaves of the individual pulleys 5 and 6 with a certain clamping force.
The drive belt 1 comprises two annular, or in themselves closed, tension elements 2, each of which is individually accommodated in respective recesses 4 in transverse elements 3 of the drive belt 1 which are arranged in a series of connecting transverse elements 3 along the circumference of the of the tension elements 2. are included in the drive belt 1 and at least almost completely fill the circumference thereof. In Fig. 2, the known drive belt 1 is schematically represented in a longitudinal or circumferential directional section. Figure 2 therefore shows a transverse element 3 in front view and the tension elements 2 in section.
The transverse element 3 comprises a base part 10 and a head part 16 between which two recesses 4 are defined, in which in each case a tension element 2 is at least partially accommodated. In the axial direction, the two recesses 4 of a transverse element 3 are separated from each other by a centrally located connecting piece 13 of the transverse element 3, which connects said base and head parts 10 and 16 thereof. At the location of the two recesses 4, the base part 10 in each case forms a bearing surface 15 for the tension element 2, 5 accommodated in the respective recess, which bearing surfaces 15 are bounded in a first axial direction by the connecting piece 13 of the transverse element 3 and in a second opposite, axial direction through a respective (12a; 12b) protrusion 12 in radial direction, or projection 12 of the base part 10. On either side of the base part 10, the transverse element 3 is provided with pulley sheave contact surfaces 14 diverging from each other radially outwardly 10 which form the axial ends of the base part 10 and which are intended for frictional contact with the pulley discs. In this example, said protrusions 12, at least the respective side surfaces thereof, form part of the pulley sheave contact surfaces 14. Furthermore, the known transverse element 3, namely on either side of the base part 10 thereof, is further provided with a longitudinal direction protruding stud 17 and of a pit 18 protruding in that direction. In the drive belt 1, the stud 17 of a first transverse element 3 engages in the pit 18 of a second, adjacent transverse element 3. These studs 17 interlocking in the drive belt 1 and pits 18 of adjacent transverse elements 3 are intended to control mutual displacement and rotation thereof, or to limit deviations therein.
The head part 16 of the known transverse element 3 extends on either side thereof, ie in the axial directions, above the respective bearing surfaces 15 and thus above the respective tension elements 2, an overlap in axial direction between them being approximately 30% of the total dimension of a bearing surface is 15. The confinement of the tension elements 2 in the radial direction is therefore relatively limited. Moreover, as a result of this, during a contact between the head part 16, or a respective axial end 20 thereof, and a respective tension element 2, undesired stresses can occur in said tension element 2, which stresses adversely affect the load-bearing capacity or the service life of the drive belt 1.
Een aldus vormgegeven dwarselement 3 is afgebeeld in de figuren 3,4 en 5.According to the present invention, an improvement can be achieved herein if the transverse element 3 is provided with a head part 16 which extends at least over 50% and preferably over 70 to 80% of the axial dimension or width of the bearing surfaces 15. A transverse element 3 designed in this way is shown in Figures 3,4 and 5.
Figure 3 shows an isometric view of the transverse element 3 according to the invention, which is also shown in section 4 in the axial A and radial R directions in Figure 4. Because the head part 16 of the transverse element 3 according to the invention extends axially beyond the center of the tension element 2 (see also Figure 5), its confinement in the recess 4 is greatly improved. In particular, the tendency of the tension element 2 to fold or kink around the said axial end 20 of the head part 16 during operation and the internal stresses occurring thereby are greatly reduced.
Incidentally, the transverse element 3 according to the invention is provided with a single stud 17 and complementary pit (not visible), which, moreover, are centrally located in the head portion 16, i.e. in the axial center thereof. All this in contrast to the known transverse element 3. As a result, the function of the interlocking stud 17 and pit of adjacent transverse elements 3 is limited to controlling and limiting a mutual displacement, while a mutual rotation is not thereby impeded. The use of a single stud-and-pit combination 17, 18 located in the axial center of the transverse element 3 offers on the one hand a number of obvious and relevant product and process technical advantages, but on the other hand allows the said rotation, whereby the tension element 2 and the head part 16 will come into contact with each other more easily. Thus, the present invention is particularly important for this latter type of transverse element 3 from Figure 3. Figure 5 shows the part of the drive belt 1 corresponding to section A from Figure 3 in an enlarged view.
In the most accurate approximation, the said axial distance B3 and the radial distance are measured from the point where the tension element 2 touches the 7 transverse element 3, or the side part 11 of the head part 16, when it is placed in the recess 4, or is removed therefrom, as schematically indicated in the insert A1 in Figure 5.
Volgens de onderhavige uitvinding dienen de voornoemde en in de figuur 5 5 geïllustreerde parameters ten behoeve van de assemblage van de drijfriem 1 te voldoen aan de vergelijking:According to the present invention, the aforementioned parameters illustrated in Figure 5 for the assembly of the drive belt 1 must satisfy the comparison:
Dl H <-*(S-D) (B3-B2 + BI)D1 H <- * (S-D) (B3-B2 + BI)
For the durability of the drive belt 1, the height H of the protuberance 12 must be at least equal to half the thickness D10 of the tension element 2, preferably to the entire thickness D of the tension element 2 and in the ideally at the radial distance S between the base part 10 and the head part 16 of the transverse element 3. This radial distance S itself should preferably have a value in the range from 105 to 200% of the thickness D of the tension element 2. In In an absolute sense, the thickness D of the tension element 2 is preferably between 0.1 mm and 0.3 mm and / or the width B1 of the tension element 2 is preferably between 4 mm and 10 mm.
According to the invention it is advantageous if a side surface 19 of the protuberance 12 facing a recess 4 is flat and connects to the bearing surface 15 at an acute angle. This prevents the traction element 2 from operating along the protuberance during operation in axial direction. 12 upwards, or the recess 4 out, can be driven. If the side surface 19 is provided with a concave curvature (as in Figure 5), the radius of curvature thereof should preferably be at most equal to a radius of curvature of the convex curvature of a respective axial side surface of the tension element 2 which comes into contact with it . The last-mentioned radius of curvature is preferably chosen to be maximum, and therefore equal to half the thickness D of the tension element 2.
According to the invention it is advantageous if the axial ends 20 of the head part 16, or of the side parts 11 thereof, are provided with a convex curvature. Also with the aim of reducing the contact stresses that occur as a result of the contact 30 between the transverse element 3 and the tension element 2 therein. However, in this case it is in particular the contact between them that occurs during the assembly of the drive belt 1. In an absolute sense, a radius of curvature of the convex curvature of the axial ends 20 of the head part 16 of the transverse element 3 is preferably at least 1 mm.
