Een belangrijk nadeel van de bekende sluitkom is dat de stelplaat bij het 15 openen van het slot in een van het huis afgekeerde richting wordt getrokken, waardoor doorgaans relatief snel speling ontstaat tussen de stelplaat en het huis, hetgeen ten koste gaat van een optimale opname van de schoot door de effectieve opneemruimte. Door de ontstane tussenruimte (speling) tussen de stelplaat en de sluitkom kunnen malafide personen middels werktuigen relatief eenvoudig toegang krijgen tot de opneemruimte, 20 waardoor het slot van een afgesloten deur of raam doorgaans relatief eenvoudig kan worden geforceerd en kan worden geopend.
