Inleidingpreface
Treating water with ultrasonic vibrations is a sustainable way to disinfect water, to decompose micro-contaminants in water, to break up aggregates of particles that contain micro-organisms, and to remove micro-contaminants, which are on the surface of the liquid. dispersed particles are adsorbed, desorbable.
In practice it is a big challenge to transfer ultrasonic energy that is generated with a transducer to the water. In particular, spreading the ultrasonic vibrations over a large volume of water appears to be very difficult in practice.
The present invention relates to a method and device that makes it possible to generate ultrasonic vibrations and transfer them to water in a very efficient manner.
Technische beschrijving van onderhavige vindingTechnical description of the present invention
According to a first aspect, the technology according to the present invention consists of an electronic drive for an ultrasonic transducer characterized by a class E amplifier that is composed of a first microcontroller or first computer with a first PWM (pulsed width modulation) output. The first PWM output is operatively connected to a first FET driver IC. The first FET driver IC is preferably operatively connected to a first N Channel MOSFET whose drain is operatively connected to a coil which in turn is operatively connected to the supply voltage for driving the transducer. The source of the first N Channel MOSFET is operatively connected to the mass (min). The gate of the first N Channel MOSFET is operatively connected to the first PWM output. Parallel to the drain and source of the first N Channel MOSFET, a capacitor is placed with the function, at the resonance frequency of the ultrasonic transducer, of obtaining ohmic electrical behavior of the ultrasonic transducer (neither inductive nor capacitive). The Class E amplifier thus obtained is extremely suitable for driving the ultrasonic transducer according to the technology of the present invention and forms part of the present invention. A very practical implementation of a first computer is a Raspberry Pi as the first PWM, a Microchip TC4428 ACPA as the first FET driver IC and a first N Channel MOSFET of the type 6N80C3. This combination of components forms an explicit part of the present invention, which is not limited thereto.
According to a second aspect, the technology according to the present invention consists of an ultrasonic transducer with special properties which will be explained with reference to Figure 1 of this application. Unless otherwise indicated, the numbers mentioned in the following text refer to the numbering indicated in Figure 1. Figure 1 shows an ultrasonic transducer 1. It is a standard design of a commercially available ultrasonic transducer with a wide vibration face 5 made of aluminum and intended for transmitting ultrasonic vibrations to an object attached to this face. A threaded hole is provided in plane 5 so that an object can be screwed into this hole and can be effectively connected to the transducer in this way. An important part of the technology according to the present invention is the object that is screwed into plane 5 of the transducer. It consists of a hollow metal cylinder 3. Solid cylinders 4 and 7 are provided on either side of metal cylinder 3, which have exactly the same diameter as hollow metal cylinder 3. A screw thread 2 is turned off of solid cylinder 7 that is slightly shorter than the hole with thread arranged in transducer 5. By providing the screw and hole with screw thread 2 with vibration-resistant glue and subsequently screwing the cylinder into transducer surface 5, a transducer according to the technology of the present invention is obtained, hereinafter referred to as a resonator. The transducer according to the technology of the present invention appears to be a very good resontator both electrically and mechanically and can be driven extremely efficiently with the class E amplifier according to the technology of the present invention. The transducer with the lance in Figure 1 according to the technology of the present invention is referred to as a resonator later in this application.
When the lance of the resonator (the cylinder) is almost entirely or largely brought into water, while the transducer 1 is outside the water, then this lance appears to lead to microcavitation in the liquid over the entire length and the formation of so-called streamers . This makes it possible to bring the lance into a reactor via a swivel or oil seal and to keep the transducer body 1 outside the reactor so that it does not come into contact with water. This embodiment is explicitly part of the technology according to the present invention. If a pin or sharp point 6 is provided at the bottom of the lance, it appears that the majority of the streamers under point 6 can be created. This makes it possible to concentrate the ultrasonic energy in a volume element. This construction is explicitly part of the technology according to the present invention. Some characteristic dimensions and properties of a resonator that works well in practice are: a transducer with a power of 60 Watt and a resonance frequency of 20 kHz to 40 kHz requires a cylinder diameter of approximately 20 mm and a lance length of approximately 20 cm to 2 meters. Solid cylinders 4 and 7 each have a length of approximately 1 cm to approximately 5 cm. A first rule of thumb appears that the hollow cylinder 3 must be at least a factor of two longer than the sum of the lengths of the first solid cylinder and the second solid cylinder. A second rule of thumb is that the length of the solid cylinders 4 and 7 must be at least one centimeter. The material from which the resonator is made is preferably stainless steel 316 or stainless steel 316L or titanium. It is noted that the embodiment described herein does not in any way limit the scope of the present invention.
Now that the technology according to the present invention has been described, a method for producing the resonator follows. To this end, a solid block or cylinder or plug with a diameter larger than the diameter of cylinder 3 is welded on either side of hollow cylinder 3. The blocks are then turned to the exact same diameter as the cylinder. Thereafter, cylinder 7 is turned, whereby a thread is made that fits into the screw hole of transducer 1. Finally, vibration-resistant glue is applied to the thread and into the screw hole and the solid metal cylinder 7 is tightly tightened against the aluminum surface 5 of the transducer 1. Said production method is by no means self-evident and in practice appears to be necessary to obtain a properly functioning resonator which, after compensation with a capacitor, can also be electrically driven as an ohmic resistor (neither inductive nor capacitive). The production method for the resonator is emphatically part of the technology according to the present invention.
Without the inventors of the present invention thereby making any limitation in the scope of the invention, they have the following possible explanation for the exceptionally good functioning of the resonator: Solid cylinder 7 provides a gradual mechanical impedance transition from solid transducer 1 to hollow cylinder 3 (impedance matching). By first welding a massive cylinder 7 with an oversize diameter onto the cylinder and then turning the whole over, imperfections and deformations in the metal are minimized. This prevents unwanted reflections. The same applies to unscrewing the screw thread 2 from a part of the solid metal cylinder 7 instead of welding a screw thread onto the solid cylinder 7. The hollow cylinder ensures that the vibrations are efficiently moved along the entire length of the cylinder without dissipating much energy. The solid cylinder 4 provides reflections and regulates the radial emission of the ultrasonic vibrations. Sharp point 6 is optional and, if desired, provides for the local introduction of ultrasonic energy into the liquid. If the lance contains imperfections on cylinder 7 or the thread due to a different production method, an annoying audible sound is produced and the electrical properties of the resonator are far from optimal, which leads to the electrical control of the transducer dissipating a lot of energy and becoming hot . This means that the lance cannot be made in a reproducible manner in practice and cannot be used in practice.
Now that the technology according to the present invention has been described, as well as the production method of the resonator, a number of applications of the control and resonator follow.
In a first application, the resonator is mounted in a cylindrical UV-C reactor by means of a swivel or oil barrier. The transducer 1 hereby remains outside the reactor and the majority of the lance is in the liquid in the reactor. The lance is preferably arranged in parallel with the quartz protection tubes of the UV-C lamps in the reactor. Controlling the resonator leads to a homogeneous spread of ultrasonic vibrations in the reactor with the effect that the quartz protection tubes of the UV-C lamps do not contaminate and that the effectiveness of the disinfection process or the decomposition process of micro-contaminants in the UVC reactor is increased.
In a second application, a resonator with a short lance 3 and a sharp point 4 is fitted by means of a swivel at the bottom of a cylindrical UVC reactor with 1 quartz protection tube and 1 UV-C lamp. The transducer 1 is again located outside the reactor. The end 6 is positioned at a distance of a few centimeters to a few decimeters from the end of the quartz shield tube. When the resonator is controlled, streamers are created which preferentially collide with the bottom of the quartz protection tube and efficiently bring it into ultrasonic vibration. As a result, the quartz protection tube remains clean and both the quartz protection tube and the UV-C lamp have excellent resistance to ultrasonic vibrations.
In a third application, a plurality of UV-C lamps and resonators are arranged in a vessel, the resonators and the resonators preferably being positioned parallel to each other in the vessel. In this way a very efficient UV-C reactor is created with a small footprint and a large reactor volume where the quartz protection tubes do not contaminate. The UV-C reactor is preferably provided with means for stirring the reactor. These means are preferably a submersible pump with suction strainer on the bottom and outlet in the reactor. A reactor according to this design is in most cases a better alternative to a plug flow UV-C reactor and is explicitly part of the technology according to the present invention.
In a fourth application, one or more resonators are used in shell and tube heat exchangers, the resonator (s) being arranged parallel to the pipes of the heat exchanger. Due to the ultrasonic vibrations, it appears possible to prevent scaling in the heat exchangers.
In a fifth application, one or more resonators are arranged in a preferably stirred vessel to which flocculant is also added. The resonators appear to be extremely suitable for promoting the flocculation process by increasing the collision frequency between particles and at the same time breaking up (too) porous flakes.
In a sixth application, one or more resonators are arranged in or next to membrane modules. Tubular membranes in particular are extremely suitable for use in combination with the technology according to the present invention.
