Description
Title: Construction for fixating the two halves that emerge after separating an object
EkM of the indention
While separating an object, the object shall preferably be supported in such way that 5 the two separation halves stay in a fixed relative position to each other in order to prevent damage to the to be separated object due to mechanical forces exhibited near the separation-area and to prevent the separation equipment from becoming jammed due to closure of the gap created for separation as a side-effect from movement of at least one separation halve. Especially while the separation process nears completion, there is an increasing risk of 10 damaging the to be separated object or jamming the separation device between the two separation halves as the amount of material that absorbs the forces between the two separation halves decreases during the process of separation. Damage to the separation halves can consist of, but is not limited to, an uneven separation, or deformation of the object’s material at any of the separation halves.
15 Another important reason why a to be separated object shall be supported in such way that the two separation halves stay in fixed relative position to each other is to provide a safe working environment. As the separation process nears completion, there is an increasing risk of injuries due to uncontrolled movement, such as, but not limited to, falling, rotating or twisting, of any separation halve. Furthermore there is an increasing risk of damage to the 20 separation device or injury of the person handling the separation device due to jamming of the separation device as a result from uncontrolled movement of the separation halves.
Description of prior art
Well known ways of working to achieve fixation of the two separation halves of a to 25 be separated object are; the usage of multiple supports (three or more); the help of one or more people; the fixation of one of the separation halves by any means, while handling the separation device in one hand and fixating the other separation halve with the other hand. The latter method is obviously not suitable for handling large objects due to limited human capabilities.
30 The invention as described in CA 2 274 326 provides limited means for fixating the separation halves of a, to be separated object. Mounting of the in CA 2 274 326 described invention to the to be separated object is hard due to the fact that the lower parts of the clamps tend to be pulled down by gravity resulting in opening the clamps. Reversing the clamps could 1038748 2 resolve this issue, but would restrict the area for operating the separation device rendering the invention useless. Furthermore, the invention as described in CA 2 274 326 provides limited stability due to; the nature of the used clamps; the possibility to move the clamps around the pivot-point. The limited stability of the invention as described in CA 2 274 326 could still 5 result in damage to a to be separated object and/or jamming of the used separation device.
The invention NL 2002030 can be used for the purpose of fixating a to be separated object, but is complex to produce due to the amount of moving parts and the used springs that have to be assembled pre-loaded. Furthermore, the invention as described in NL 2002030 is hard to remove from the separated object due to the springs pushing the clamping mechanisms 10 towards the separated object and the clamping mechanisms being closed due to gripping at the separated object whilst sliding off the separated object. Furthermore, the clamping mechanism of the invention as described in NL 2002030 exerts force towards the side of the to be clamped object while tightening. This can cause damage to the, often damage prone, side of a to be separated object. Another disadvantage of the invention in NL 2002030 is that the area 15 wherein the clamping force is applied to a to be separated object is limited due to the curved clamping-surface. This limited area wherein the clamping force is applied, increases the risk of causing damage to the clamped object and provides limited stability during the separation process. Furthermore, the invention as described in NL 2002030 is subject to wear due to the moving parts.

Description of the invention
The invention consists of a construction for fixating a to be separated object in such way that the two separation halves that emerge after the separation process are fixated in a relative position to each other while providing enough room for handling a separation device. 25 In the drawings, which form a part of this specification, Figure 1 shows an embodiment of the invention; Figure 2 shows a method for using the invention; Figure 3 shows another embodiment of the invention which provides the possibility to fixate clamps to the invention; Figure 4 shows a method for applying an embodiment of the invention; Figure 5 shows a method for using an embodiment of the invention during the separation of a large 30 object; Figure 6 shows a method for using an embodiment of the invention for separating an object by using a handsaw. The invention is explained in detail in the following paragraphs by means of the descriptions of the drawings.
Figure 1 shows an embodiment of the invention for fixating a to be separated object 3 in such way that the two separation halves that emerge after the separation process are fixated in a relative position to each other. The invention comprises; a construction (1) that consists of two halves (la and lb) with form a concentric lower part; two screws or bolts (2 and 3). The construction (1) provides two surfaces (A and B) which are non-adjacent, non-overlapping 5 and located in the same plane (C). These surfaces (A and B) provided by the construction shall be clamped against a to be separated object in such way that each of the surfaces (A and B) fixates one of the two pieces that will emerge after the separation of a to be separated object. Furthermore, the by the construction (1) provided surfaces (A and B) can be fully or partially covered with a material to prevent skidding and/or damage to the to be separated object. The 10 by the construction (1) provided surfaces (A and B) can consist of multiple surfaces located in the same plane (C). Furthermore, the distance between the by the construction (1) provided surfaces (A and B) can be varied after loosening the screws or bolts (2 and 3), by sliding the two halves of the construction (la and lb) away from each other or towards each other. Fixation of the provided surfaces (A and B) is again achieved by tightening the screws (2 and 15 3).
Figure 2 illustrates a method for using the invention. The invention can be used by clamping the construction (1) to a to be separated object (I) by applying at least one clamp (4) per the by the construction provided surfaces (Figure 1, A and B). For each used clamp (4), one clamping surface (Dl) is placed against the construction whilst the other clamping surface 20 (D2) of the same clamp is positioned against the to be separated object. The foreseen separation of the to be separated object is indicated by a line (E).
Figure 3 shows another embodiment of the invention in which one clamp per by the construction provided surfaces (figure 1, A and B) can be fixated to the construction (1) by sliding one of the clamping surfaces of the clamps (Dl) into an opening (FI) in the 25 construction. The advantage of the embodiment of the invention as illustrated in figure 3 is that the clamps can be assembled and disassembled rendering less space needed for storage compared to an embodiment where the clamps are permanently fixated to the construction.
Figure 4 shows the method for mounting the embodiment of the invention as illustrated in figure 3 or any other embodiment in which the clamps are fixated to, or 30 integrated in, the construction (1), to a to be separated object. The by the construction provided surfaces can be clamped against a to be separated object (I) by pressing the release-levers of the clamps (G) while pushing the by the construction provided surfaces against the to be separated object (I) by pushing the handgrips of the clamps (HI and H2) towards the to be 4 separated object (I). Gravitation (Z) will subsequently make the sliding part of the clamps (J) drop against the to be separated object (I) after which the clamps can be tightened by squeezing the two parts of the handgrips (HI and H2) one ore more times. Obviously, the clamps shall be opened before this method of mounting the invention to a to be separated 5 object can be used.
Figure 5 shows a method for applying the invention for the separation of a large object (I). The to be separated object (I) is for example supported on two so called sawhorses (L). Two instances of the invention (K) are clamped to the to be separated object (I) in such way that the two separation halves that emerge after the separation (II and 12) are fixated in a 10 relative position to each other. The line (M) indicates where the separation is to be made.
Figure 6 shows another method for applying the invention for the separation of a large object (I) by using a handsaw (N). The to be separated object (I) is for example supported on two sawhorses (L). Two instances of the invention (K1 and K2) are clamped to the to be separated object (I) in such way that the two separation halves that emerge after the 15 separation (II and 12) are fixated in a relative position to each other. The line (M) indicates where the separation is to be made. One instance of the invention (Kl) is reversed clamped to the to be separated object in order to enable the usage of a handsaw (N) for making the separation by providing room for handling of the handsaw (N).
20 Advantages of the invention
The advantage of the invention is that it provides a solution for fixating a, to be separated object in such way that tearing, breaking, distorting or rupturing a, to be separated object during the separation process is prevented.
Another advantage of the invention is that the person who operates the separation 25 device can handle the separation of large objects without the help of another person. The separation of a large plywood plate with for example the standard dimensions of 122 cm width and 244 cm length, can be done by a single person in a controlled manner by using two instances of the invention as illustrated in Figures 5 and 6.
Another advantage of the invention is that the invention can be industrialised easier 30 than the in the prior-art described inventions, due to the simplicity of the invention and the possible use of any well known clamps as, but not limited to, c-clamps or speed-clamps.
