Description

Device for digitizing curved and flat surfaces.
The invention relates to a device for digitizing curved or flat surfaces. The device is preferably based on a flatbed scanner with provisions being made for, for example, digitizing the shape of a sole of a foot.
A device of this type is known from the publication US 6,205,230. This application uses the color shift of a prism. A problem with this application is that the color shift through the prism shows no sharp boundaries.
The invention makes use of the possibility of scanning the object in a plane perpendicular to the plane of the path of the recording head and scanning at a small angle with respect to the first scan in the direction of movement of the recording head. Between the two images there is a shift in the direction of movement of the recording head which is proportional to the distance between the recording head and the object to be scanned. This applies in the event that the recording direction does not change during the scan. With a transformation program the digital information of the two scans can be converted into a three-dimensional image of the object.
The invention uses a simple prism whereby a triangular measurement is obtained whose accuracy is determined by the fineness of the scan. The modifications to the scanner to be used are minimal, so that use can be made of commercially available scanners.
An embodiment of the invention provides the scanner with an attachment that is provided with an elastic film with a line pattern, wherein the film is pressed against the object to be digitized with, for example, gas pressure. The surface of the membrane is scanned whereby the scan is divided into strips with a number of prisms placed on the recording head. The 25 prisms cause a shift in the image so that the distance between the recording head and the object can be calculated.
When the lines on the elastic web are thickened in elastic material, the image of the line will deform when the web is pressed onto the scanner glass with some pressure. The line can for example have a triangular cross-section. With this, the local pressure with which a foot presses on a flat surface can be measured. The contact width becomes larger as the pressure increases.
The invention will be explained with reference to the drawing.

Fig. 7 toont de doorsnede van een verdikte lijnFIG. 7 shows the section of a thickened line
A line pattern (3) is provided on the fleece (2) which consists of lines that are perpendicular to the scanning direction. In some cases 05, it may be useful to apply a diamond pattern. Air can be pumped between glass plate (4) and membrane (2) in order to press the membrane close to the object to be scanned. A number of narrow prisms (6) are placed on the recording head (5). The prisms (6) cause a deflection of the light in the direction (13) in which the recording head (5) moves. The prisms can be joined to an element by designing the prism (6) as a notch wedge (7).
The effect of prism (6) is that the relevant part of the line (3) on the fleece is registered at a different position of the recording head than the parts of the line (3) that are directly registered by the recording head (5) . In FIG. 4 indicates (8) the position of the recording head (5) at which the line (3) is recorded via the prism. At position (9) of the recording head (5) line (3) is registered immediately. The image that is created at the location of an impression as in FIG. 5 is that a line (3) is shown as two broken lines (10, 11) as in FIG. 6. The mutual distance of the two broken lines (10, 11) is a measure of the distance between the recording head (5) and the object to be measured. The interrupted line (10) is the line registered by the prism.
Figure 1 shows a practical case in which the elastic film (2) is 41 millimeters away from the recording head (5). The surface of the glass plate (4) is 11 millimeters above the recording head (5). The deflection (12) at the level of the elastic web (2) here is 3 millimeters. This means that at a distance of 11 millimeters the mutual distance between the broken lines (10) and (11) is 0.8 millimeters. In this case the possible variation of the mutual distance of the broken lines (10.11) is from 0.8 to 3 millimeters.
By means of calculations the three-dimensional image can be generated with the aid of a computer.
A variant of the invention is the use of a prism without indentations in which scanning is first performed with a prism and then again without a prism. This results in pairs of lines 30 in which the mutual distance is a measure of the distance to the recording head (5).
A second variant makes use of scanners which have a double recording head, wherein the second head is provided with a continuous prism or that the recording head is adjusted at an angle of 2 to 15 degrees in the direction of the scanning direction.
3535
A third variation provides an adjustable optic whereby a second scan is made at a small angle.
In a number of cases, the elastic membrane is not necessary if the object has sufficient surface features for scanning.

The device is particularly suitable for digitizing, for example, a foot sole to manufacture support soles. It may be advantageous here for the elastic web of thickened lines (3) as indicated in Figs. 7, to be provided with which the local pressure can be derived from the width of the line (3) at a foot which is loaded and pressed on the ox plate (4).
Other parts of the body can also be digitized to produce supporting elements.
The invention is not limited to the digitization of body parts, but can also be used advantageously for digitizing other objects and for digitizing surface properties such as shape and formability.
The invention is an inexpensive, compact and efficient device for on-site scanning of soles for manufacturing support soles.
