Abstract
Description
Titel: PijpkousTitle: Pipe stocking
The invention relates to a pipe stocking for attachment to the lower leg of a horse. Such a pipe stocking is known per se and is used to protect the tendons of a horse's foreleg. If a horse runs at a gallop or in a trot, there is a risk that a hoof of a hind leg of a horse will hit the back of a front leg of a horse. The tendons of the front leg can be damaged and even partially or completely ruptured. The known pipe stocking aims to prevent a front leg from being damaged in such a way.
It is also known to weight the hooves of a horse by, for example, attaching additional hooves to it. The purpose of such a weighting of the hooves is to train a horse and to further develop the muscles of a horse, because when a horse moves the animal will have to exert an extra effort as a result of the weighted hooves. This will quickly develop a horse's muscles. In practice, however, it has been found that in such training methods an extra wear of the joints, in particular of the hocks, occurs. It appears that the weight distribution with weighted hooves is not optimal, so that the hock in particular is subjected to a disproportionately heavy load.
The object of the invention is to obviate the above-mentioned drawbacks and is characterized in that at least part of the pipe stocking comprises a metal plate for weighting the pipe stocking. The advantage of such a pipe stocking is that the abovementioned wear of, in particular, the hock joint no longer occurs. However, the muscles will be well developed when training the horse. The pipe stocking, in accordance with the 1001001 2 invention, hereby has a double function: the pipe stocking serves to protect the tendons of a leg of a horse and also has the function of temporarily weighing the legs of the horse for training the horse.
Preferably, in use, the metal plate extends substantially along the back of one leg of the horse. In that case, the weight distribution of the stocking will be optimal for training the horse. In addition, when the pipe stocking is attached to a front leg of the horse, the metal plate gives a very adequate protection of the tendons of the leg. The pipe stocking can also be used for a hind leg of the horse.
The metal plate is preferably made deformable and at least substantially made of lead. The metal plate 15 can then be well formed according to the shape of the leg, so that the pipe stocking will not irritate the animal. In addition, the use of lead has the advantage that the metal plate can be made relatively thin because lead is relatively heavy.
Hierin toont:The invention will be further elucidated with reference to the drawing. Herein shows:

Figuur 2 een dwarsdoorsnede van de pijpkous volgens 25 figuur 1;Figure 2 shows a cross-section of the pipe stocking according to Figure 1;
Figuur 3 de pijpkous volgens figuur 1 wanneer deze aan een been van een paard is bevestigd;Figure 3 shows the pipe stocking according to figure 1 when it is attached to a leg of a horse;
Figure 4 shows a view of an alternative embodiment of a pipe stocking according to the invention.
In figure 1 reference number 1 shows a possible embodiment of a pipe stocking according to the invention. The pipe stocking is shown here, that is to say, the pipe stocking is not attached to a leg of a horse. In figure 1 a top view of the pipe stocking is shown in the direction 1001001 3 according to the arrow P of figure 2. The pipe stocking is composed of a flexible sheet-shaped outer material 2 and an elastic sheet-shaped inner material 4. The inner material in this example consists at least substantially from 5 foam rubber. The outer material in this example is at least substantially made of leather. As can be seen in figure 1, the pipe stocking is designed as a strip-shaped body. Between the inner material 4 and the outer material 2 there is a metal plate 6. The metal plate 6 serves to reinforce the pipe stocking and in this example is made of lead sheet. Moreover, because the metal plate 6 is made of lead sheet, it is flexible, so that it can easily be adapted to the shape of a horse's leg.
In figure 1 the longitudinal edges 8 of the metal plate 15 are shown in broken lines. The outer material 2 and the inner material 4 in this example are sewn together near the longitudinal edges. The stitches 10 thereof are also shown in broken lines in Figure 1. The pipe stocking is further provided with fastening means 12 for releasably connecting two opposite vertical longitudinal edges 14,16 of the pipe stocking. When the fasteners connect the said longitudinal edges to each other, the tube stocking is closed in itself to enclose, in use, a leg 18 of a horse (see figure 3).
In this example, said fasteners are designed as Velcro tape known per se. To this end, a first part 20 of the Velcro is fastened to the outer material 2 near the longitudinal edge 14. The first part 20 of the Velcro tape can for instance be attached by means of gluing or by means of sewing. The second part 22 of the Velcro is attached to a protrusion 24 of the pipe stocking. The bulge 24 is located on a vertical side of the pipe sleeve. The second part of the Velcro tape in this example consists of two strips, each of which is connected to the outer material 2 of the protrusion 24 near a free end 26 of the strips located opposite a free end 26 of the strips. This connection can also be made, for example, by gluing or sewing.
As can be seen from figure 1, the center of gravity Z of the fasteners is above half the height H of the pipe stocking. This has the advantage that in use the pipe stocking can be very stable attached to the leg 18 of the horse. In use, the metal plate will extend at least substantially along the back of the horse's leg as shown in Figure 3. This achieves that an optimum weight distribution is realized by the weighting of the leg 18 of the horse. Due to the weighting of the leg, the muscles of the horse will be extra developed when training the horse. Moreover, it appears that when a leg is weighted in such a way, no extra wear of the joints of the horse will occur. Also in this way the back sides of the front legs of the horse are well protected against undesired contacts with the hooves of the rear legs of the horse.
The invention is by no means limited to the above-described exemplary embodiment. The pipe stocking can for instance be strip-shaped and provided with a protrusion 24, 24 'on both vertical sides. Such an embodiment is shown in figure 4, wherein parts corresponding to figure 1 are provided with the same reference number. All such variants are considered to fall within the scope of the invention.
