Abstract
Se divulga un método para la reducción y la prevención de las emisiones de mercurio en el medio ambiente de los combustibles fósiles quemados u otros gases liberados con el uso de hipobromito. El hipobromito se utiliza para la captura del mercurio de los gases de combustión resultantes utilizando un sistema de desulfuración de gases de combustion o lavador. El método utiliza hipobromito en conjunto con un lavador de gases para capturar el mercurio y reducir su emisión y/o re-emisión con los gases de chimenea. El método permite el uso de carbón como un limpiador y fuente de combustible amigable con el medio ambiente, así como la captura de mercurio de otros sistema de procesamiento.
