Abstract

THIS INVENTION PROVIDES THE METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR TINTING A BASE PAINT COMPRISING A CONTINUOUS LIQUID PHASE. THE METHOD CONSISTS OF ADDING TO THE BASE PAINT ONE OR MORE SHAPED SOLID CONCENTRATES EACH COMPRISING A NON-PARTICULATE SOLID CARRIER MATERIAL CONTAINING A PIGMENT OR MIXTURE OF THE DESIRED TINT. THE PAINT TO BE TINTED IS THEN AGITATED TO ENSURE COMPLETE DISPERSION OF THE CONCENTRATE. THE DISPERSION OF PIGMENT AND/OR CONCENTRATE IS CARRIED OUT FOR EXAMPLE IN A COMPOUNDING EXTRUDER, A SERIES OF ROLLERS OR A 2-BLADE MIXER.
